PGMOL have been advised to be sterner in sanctions while handling tussling in the box after an incident in the Liverpool match.
The PGMOL were told to be stronger when dealing with situations involving grappling of players before and during set pieces.
Keith Hackett, an ex-PGMOL chief and FIFA official, has given his opinion on referee Andy Madley’s attempt to stop the tussle in the penalty area during a West Ham corner kick.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hackett said that the manner in which the referee tried to put a halt to the ongoing tussle between both sets of players for a West Ham corner was not effective and did not stop the players from repeating the same.

In the dying minutes of the first-half, the ref stopped a Hammers’ corner kick set piece after seeing shoving ongoing between Ryan Gravenberch and Lucas Paqueta, as he went ahead to have a word with the pair.
Just after that, the jostling went on in the same vein after the corner was delivered by James Ward-Prowse.
While there was no punishment or sanctions for the act spotted by Madley, the warning from the ref did not do much to deter the players from continuing the act.
This has led Hackett to make a call for the PGMOL to sanction players to encourage them desist from those types of duels in the penalty area in the future.
He advised that the talking to by the ref was not as effective, and that the PGMOL needed to sort that out, especially when the season is over.
He suggested that punishments like giving out penalty kicks and free kicks would work better in preventing those situations.
