Pep Guardiola has confirmed Erling Haaland is in contention to play against Liverpool this weekend.

However, the Manchester City manager was unable to promise the striker's fitness as he also revealed defender John Stones will miss out and may require surgery.

Asked first about Haaland's availability at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Guardiola replied: "I don't know yet.

We train today, tomorrow he will test."

The striker had sat out his team's Champions League elimination at Real Madrid this week having sustained a knee problem in the final minutes of a match against Newcastle United last Saturday.
