Erling Haaland has been cleared of any serious knee injury ahead of Manchester City's clash with Liverpool, despite missing the Real Madrid match due to discomfort.
Haaland experienced a knee issue in the latter part of City's Premier League victory over Newcastle but managed to leave the pitch on his own and even participated in Tuesday's training session without visible issues.
However, upon arrival at Real Madrid for the Champions League second leg, Haaland reported problems to the medical team and consequently started on the bench.
Pep Guardiola revealed that Haaland was nearly ready to play but ultimately wasn't fit enough, elaborating post-match that although tests showed no significant damage, Haaland felt pain while walking and descending stairs.
The plan was to try, to try to get a better result than in Manchester as long as possible."
Guardiola reflected on a tough night for Manchester City, lamenting the early setbacks: "We concede a goal so early, the injury from John (Stones), is a little bit of what happened this season.
In his condition, it wasn't the best option."
With a crucial clash against Liverpool looming on Sunday, City's concerns deepen with both Haaland and Stones doubtful after the latter had to leave the pitch early at the Bernabeu.
