Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has made a major admission on his Manchester City exit.
The day the Spaniard leaves the Premier League is a day that all rival clubs and their fans will rejoice.
Guardiola has defined an era in England’s top-flight, winning six of the last seven titles available to him and his side.
And to say that he has been a thorn in Liverpool’s side would be an understatement.
The intense rivalry between Manchester City and Liverpool has defined the Premier League’s recent era, with Guardiola’s side often emerging victorious in remarkably close title races.
The 2018/19 season exemplified this perfectly when City clinched the title by a single point after winning their final 14 league games.
A mere 11 millimeters proved decisive that season, referring to John Stones’ goal-line clearance in City’s crucial victory over Liverpool at the Etihad.
Liverpool’s 2019/20 title triumph stands as the sole interruption to City’s domestic dominance.
The 2021/22 season provided another chapter in this intense rivalry.
Despite Liverpool losing only two matches all season – one fewer than City – Guardiola’s men still managed to secure the title.
But after Guardiola leaves the Etihad, it should be the last time we see the 53-year-old on English shores as the manager of a Premier League club.
What did Pep Guardiola say about his Manchester City future?
Speaking to Spanish chef Dani Garcia on his Desmontadito YouTube channel, the City boss revealed that he would not be looking to manage a side in the short-term future, and possibly only a national team if ever:
“A time will come when I feel it’s enough and I’ll definitely stop then,” Guardiola said.
“I’m not going to manage another team.
I’m not talking about the long-term future but what I’m not going to do is leave Manchester City and go to another country to do the same thing as I am now.”
“I wouldn’t have the energy to do so.
Maybe a national team but that’s different.”
Jurgen Klopp was spotted on holiday in Adelaide, with Guardiola himself admitted he should ‘stop’ and perhaps enjoy his life more like the German is doing:
“I should stop, like these chefs that go to other countries, stop and see what we’ve done well and what we could do better and when you’re busy all day day after day you don’t have time to do that,” Guardiola explained.
“I think stopping would do me good.”
“I’m still young and when I stop, there’s several things I want to do?
One of them is to learn French, dedicate my free time to myself so I can play golf and then begin to learn how to cook simple things.”
