Peter Crouch was the hero this weekend for Liverpool Legends as the striker inspired the Anfield side to a 2-0 win against Chelsea Legends.

The annual Legends match took place on Merseyside this Saturday with big names from Liverpool and Chelsea’s past coming together to take part in a charity match for the LFC Foundation, with Crouch scoring a brace in a 2-0 win.

With Crouch lauding the Liverpool fans for their support and for raising plenty of money for a good cause, the former England international has been in the spotlight for all the right reasons leading up to this game at Anfield.

And speaking last year, Crouch once named one Liverpool Legends player as someone who was so good in training that even rival players were impressed with what they saw.

Speaking to Sport Bible last October, the former Tottenham and Stoke City star named Steven Gerrard in his dream five-a-side team, with Crouch noting that the former Liverpool captain was the ultimate professional during his career.

One of two Liverpool players to make the team alongside former goalkeeper Pepe Reina, Gerrard’s mentality on and off the pitch is the stuff of legend at Anfield, with the midfielder one of the best trainers to ever play for the Reds.

And for Crouch, Gerrard’s work-rate left a lasting impact on the former striker, with the pundit mentioning that even England players would admit that the midfielder was the best player in training every single day.

Crouch said: “I think people will tell you, even England players, the best player in training every single day, he could win a game on his own.

I think he dragged Liverpool to the 2005 European Cup final, his influence was the reason they won it.

I’m an FA Cup winner because of Stevie G, he’s just a winner.”

Gerrard’s training methods have gone down as the stuff of legend at Liverpool, with the midfielder’s mentality to give it 110% every day something that inspired the Reds to plenty of silverware during the captain’s career at Anfield.

Yet for some players, Gerrard isn’t remembered as the best in training, with Dirk Kuyt giving that honour to Jordan Henderson just one year into the former Liverpool captain’s time on Merseyside having signed from Sunderland.

Indeed, Gerrard’s legacy is one that will remain at Liverpool for generations to come, and players coming through the academy right now will be told about the midfielder’s work rate and the levels that are needed to become a legend at Anfield.
