Football is a sport where high levels of fitness are a necessity.
The sport can take a big toll on the body over time, and some players are more fortunate than others when it comes to avoiding serious injuries during their playing career.
Mohamed Salah is a player that is relentlessly reliable, and that is testament to how much he commits himself to looking after his body.
At 32 years of age, he has the fitness of players much younger than him, and that has allowed him to reach the heights he has in football.
Earlier this week, Salah’s stay on Merseyside was officially extended as he signed a new two-year deal with the club.
Upon the expiry of his contract, Salah will be 35 years old, and many will back him to continue to strive for records as he doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon.
Arne Slot has enjoyed an impressive first season for Liverpool, aided tremendously by Salah’s brilliance, and the Dutchman has been full of praise for his star man following his contract announcement.
Slot said: “He is a physical freak.
[It’s about] what he does physically, but also mentally, to stay at the top of his game for a whole season, because it’s very hard to do this a whole season every three days.”
Despite Salah now being in his thirties, he is currently seeing out his best ever season in football, having scored 32 goals and registering 22 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions so far this season for Liverpool.
Arne Slot then went on to make a prediction for Mohamed Salah, envisioning the Egyptian winger to continue to chase greatness.
“That’s why only one team can win the Champions League, only one team can win the league because it’s so hard to do.
And then to do this for seven or eight years in a row is probably even harder.
And he has two more to go and he will prove that he is able to do so.”
“I think we can all agree on the fact that Mo has had an incredible season this year.
So there’s every reason to expect him to be at the same level at the start of next season.”
