Liverpool continued their fine start to the new Premier League season under Arne Slot with a 2-1 win against Chelsea.

Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones were the Liverpool heroes at Anfield, scoring either side of Nicolas Jackson’s goal for Chelsea.

Slot now has seven wins from his eight Premier League matches in charge, with the loss to Nottingham Forest his only setback.

Rafa Benitez has praised Slot for his superb start to life at Anfield, with the Dutchman seemingly effortlessly taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

But the hard work must continue if Liverpool are to continue pushing and see off the likes of Man City and Arsenal.

It was another fantastic team performance from the Merseyside outfit, but it was the two goalscorers who caught the eye of former Premier League striker Troy Deeney in particular.

Naming Jones in his Team of the Week for BBC Sport, Deeney said: “He won the penalty for Liverpool’s first goal against Chelsea and followed it up by making a superb run and touching in the second-half winner.

In Liverpool’s biggest game of the season so far he was the shining light in the centre of midfield.”

And discussing Salah, Deeney noted: “He always scores in the big games for Liverpool and Salah once again showed great composure to get them off the mark from the penalty spot at Anfield, taking no notice of Nicolas Jackson’s mind games.

“He was a menace for the Chelsea defence all game, and showed that he still has plenty of pace and the power in his play.”

Jones also impressed David James, with the Liverpool midfielder really stepping up when Slot needed him.

Regular starter Alexis Mac Allister was rested from the start after his international break exploits, with Jones entrusted from the first whistle.

And he really didn’t let his manager down, with the midfielder winning the penalty for Salah to convert, as well as winning another before it was ruled out by VAR.

Salah meanwhile continued his superb start to the season, as well as coming back to haunt former club Chelsea once more.

The winger continues to be a superstar for the Reds, with the Anfield faithful becoming increasingly worried about his future.

Salah’s contract, like those of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, will expire next season, with a new deal undoubtedly needed if Slot wants to be successful in England.
