There is some good news about the fitness of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Liverpool defender suffered an injury during Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League round-of-16 clash against PSG on Tuesday.

Alexander-Arnold started the game but did not last 90 minutes after he landed awkwardly while trying to make a challenge midway through the second half.

A stretcher was brought out, but he was able to walk gingerly to the dressing room.

After the game, Liverpool coach Arne Slot confirmed that the defender will miss the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United on Sunday.

“With Trent, he had to come off.

So I would be surprised if he is available for Sunday.”

While Alexander-Arnold is set to miss the clash on Sunday, the latest report from the Daily Mail claims that the defender has not suffered a severe injury as was feared by some fans.

Considering the extent of the pain the Liverpool captain was in as he lay on the floor clutching his ankle, it was feared that he would be out for a while and could miss the rest of the season.

But Lewis Steele has quashed those fears, reporting that the defender has suffered no serious damage to his ankle.

“Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle, but no serious damage has been suffered, and it is hoped he can still play again this season,” Steele wrote in the Daily Mail.

“The right-back limped off in the Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday with an ankle injury and underwent scans today.

Given that it took Alexander-Arnold nearly four minutes to walk from the far side of the pitch to the tunnel, it looked ominous for him, and his involvement in the cup final would be seen as a minor miracle.

“Ankle injuries can look worse than they are in the first hours as it is difficult to walk on them, so it could settle quickly and be better than many fear.

But it did not look good as Alexander-Arnold headed straight down the tunnel.

“It was feared he had also suffered a knee injury in the fall, but it looks like this has been avoided?

While it is too soon to put any timescale on his recovery, it appears the injury is not as bad as some worried.”
