Arsenal star William Saliba has revealed teammate Gabriel Magalhaes pipped him into getting the shirt of his favourite defender - Sergio Ramos.

The Spanish legend came up against the Gunners last season in the Champions League group stage, with Arsenal beat Sevilla away 2-1.

And Saliba has revealed he was gunning to receive his jersey, but it wasn't to be.

Speaking ahead of his side's last-16 second leg clash against PSV, Saliba was asked who his favourite defender is.

To which said: "We played against Sergio Ramos last season, I wanted his shirt, but Gabriel wanted it so badly, so he gave it to Gabriel!

"For me, he’s in the best in history.

[Virgil] van Dijk is unbelievable, Gabriel as well."

Regarded as one of the world's best defenders, Saliba then declared what he has to improve on his game to be considered as the greatest of his generation.

He remarked: "My concentration, I have to score more and I have to help my team win some trophies.

"When you win trophies, you can say, ‘I’m the best.' I have to push and demand more from myself to help the team."

Nottingham Forest have confirmed they are planning on doubling the capacity in a rebuild of the Peter Taylor Stand.

The Reds have stated their ambitious plans could take place next season to extend seating from 5,000 to 10,000 with the stand boasting Champions League quality facilities.

A statement on Tuesday read: "It remains the club’s ambition to redevelop the Peter Taylor Stand and there is a material prospect that we could start that work during the 2025/26 season.

"If that is the case, we will consult with season card holders who have seats in the Peter Taylor Stand regarding their relocation, if and when appropriate.”

It was in 2019 when Forest first when public in their plans to modernise the 60-year-old stand.

As it stands, Forest are on course to be back playing in Europe's premier competition as they sit in third spot in the Premier League table.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is reportedly preparing to sanction a quintet of sales this summer.

Rumours are circulating that several senior players might be bidding farewell to Anfield as Slot sets out to reshape his Liverpool team.

While Liverpool's strong performance in the Premier League has fueled optimism, Slot is reportedly assessing the squad's composition as they look toward next season.

Contract situations surrounding star players Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk have already become focal points in the ongoing transfer discussions.

According to reports from Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are anticipating an active summer transfer window, with both potential departures and new signings on the horizon.

Players mentioned in connection with possible exits include goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, midfielders Wataru Endo and Harvey Elliott, and forwards Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota.

Declan Rice came under fire for his overzealous reaction to a match-saving tackle during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

The Gunners midfielder was in the thick of the action at Old Trafford on Sunday having netted his side’s equaliser 16 minutes from time.

And he was at it again when with six minutes remaining as Rice got Arsenal out of jail with a sliding challenge to dispossess United striker Rasmus Hojlund with the goal gaping.

The Denmark international had just David Raya to beat to score what would likely have been the winning goal, but Rice intervened to help Mikel Arteta’s side hold on to a valuable point.

The England international subsequently threw a wild fist pump after clearing the danger but not everybody shared Rice’s passion, not least talkSPORT’s Adrian Durham who was left a little perplexed by his reaction.

Durham was covering the game alongside Danny Murphy live on air and it’s fair to say he wasn't impressed as he likened it to a mismatch between Tyson Fury and Jake Paul.

“When he celebrated the tackle on Rasmus Hojlund, now that's like Tyson Fury celebrating a win over Jake Paul,” Durham said.

“I think Declan Rice needs to set his standards and his targets higher,” he added.

John's Newfoundland, and have been here for ten days now I think, five days in hospital and just a few days out of hospital.

"The only downside is our bags went on to London and the only thing that we were left with was actually Martin Keown's autobiography.

"You know when things can't get any worse, you're stuck with Keown's autobiography for the duration."

Mikel Arteta was in a jovial mood in his pre-match press conference as he left reporters in fits of laughter.

The Arsenal boss spoke to the media ahead of the club's Champions League last-16 second leg clash against PSV at the Emirates on Wednesday night.

As Arteta awaited a question from Sky's Gary Cotterill, he simply said, 'Surprise me', leading to laughter from the reporters in attendance.

Cotterill proceeded to ask whether it is mathematically possible Arsenal can still win the Premier League despite trailing Liverpool by 15 points with ten games remaining.

To which he said: "We're going to carry on fighting to try to win every game which is the only thing that we can do at the moment, because certainly it does not depend on us."

He followed that up by saying: "That was very predictable by the way."

Cotterill then asked Arteta that if he was a betting man, would he still back the Gunners to lift the title come May, with the Spaniard simply stating: "Yeah."

Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham believes Manchester United's new stadium will have a major positive impact for the north west of England.

Manchester United's plans for a new stadium shouldn't come as a shock - it's a part of football.

That's the view of ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan, who believes there should be no uproar over the Red Devils leaving Old Trafford.

He said on talkSPORT: "The interesting thing is, it can't be lost on the people of Manchester that he decides to announce the building of an iconic new stadium and the regeneration of Manchester while doing it from London."

Before adding: "I look at it and say, 'Absolutely'.

It's part and parcel of the evolution of football clubs.

"It's interesting that their indexing it to regeneration, which means they might be looking for some cheap money from somewhere to be able to achieve that.

"Football clubs are now being utilised to regenerate areas as part of the process of regenerating which I understand, because their part of the societal fabric of regions.

"Specifically in parts of regions which have that and you've seen that being done by Man City."

Jordan added: "I think if you build a stadium like Tottenham Hotspur's, and you can get the capacity up to 100,000, then fair play.

"But it's right, Manchester United once upon a time had the most ambitious forward-thinking, illustrious, enigmatic, illuminating, enlightening stadium, and that's no longer the case anymore."

But it is understood that Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants the new ground to be completed as fast as possible and is targeting an ambitious timescale of five years.

United will continue playing at the Theatre of Dreams while construction is happening.

Legendary ex-United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has embraced the move from Old Trafford - insisting it's time for a change.

He said: "Manchester United should always strive for the best in everything it does, on and off the pitch, and that includes the stadium we play in.

"Old Trafford holds so many special memories for me personally.

"But we must be brave and seize this opportunity to build a new home, fit for the future, where new history can be made."

Manchester United have officially unveiled their plans to build a new 100,000-seater stadium to replace Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have shared conceptual images and scaled models of what the new ground and surrounding area will look like, with it claimed the regeneration project will provide £7.3billion per year to the UK economy.

The project is expected to cost £2bn and United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has secured government backing to regenerate the area around United's current home.

Commenting on the plans, Ratcliffe said: "Today marks the start of an incredibly exciting journey to the delivery of what will be the world’s greatest football stadium, at the centre of a regenerated Old Trafford.

“Our current stadium has served us brilliantly for the past 115 years, but it has fallen behind the best arenas in world sport.

"By building next to the existing site, we will be able to preserve the essence of Old Trafford, while creating a truly state-of-the-art stadium that transforms the fan experience only footsteps from our historic home.

“Just as important is the opportunity for a new stadium to be the catalyst for social and economic renewal of the Old Trafford area, creating jobs and investment not just during the construction phase but on a lasting basis when the stadium district is complete.

"The Government has identified infrastructure investment as a strategic priority, particularly in the north of England, and we are proud to be supporting that mission with this project of national, as well as local, significance.”
