Kobbie Mainoo isn’t yet good enough to be a regular Manchester United starter – it’s unfair he’s being asked to carry the midfield.

That is the view of Liverpool legend Graeme Souness, who has claimed the 19-year-old has been overhyped by Red Devils fans.

Speaking on White and Jordan, he said: “I have to say this, I’m not being unkind, Mainoo might be a player, but it’s so Man United.

“This is not to be critical of Man United, it’s never been any different.

“But when someone comes on the scene at Man United, in my days they were the ‘new George Best’, or the ‘new Bobby Charlton’, the ‘new Denis Law’.

“It is FC Hollywood, they call Bayern Munich in Germany ‘FC Hollywood’, that’s Man United here.

“If anyone shows anything, they’re put into [the] superstardom category, way before they’ve even become a good player.

“And Mainoo right now should be a player that’s flitting in and out of a good team – not coming in and being asked to stand up and play against the very best teams.

“He might be a player one day, but he’s certainly not the go-to man at United like they’re making him out to be in midfield.

“They got ran over, they were not in the game yesterday.”

Arne Slot has revealed what surprised him most about Ryan Gravenberch after starting work with him at Liverpool this summer.

The 22-year-old has been a man reborn in his second season at Anfield under the new manager as the Reds' No.6

Slot was keen to sign Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi as his new holding midfielder, but having missed out, found a solution in-house.

Part of the success has been attributed to the pair's shared Dutch nationality, with Slot more familiar than most with Gravenberch's game having lived and worked in the Netherlands when the midfielder was coming through the ranks at Ajax.

The new Liverpool boss has now offered a glowing appraisal of his compatriot's ability, having played more advanced under Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking after Gravenberch's standout showing in Liverpool's 3-0 win over Manchester United, Slot assessed what qualities he can bring.

He said: "His quality on the ball could be my first answer but I think coming from the Netherlands we all know how good he is with the ball.

"He can be a really important player for our build-up game, but what impressed me most when I started working with him [was] how much he can run and then still how good he is when he arrives in the duel.

"Today, you saw with him, Dominik [Szoboszlai] and Macca [Alexis Mac Allister] how much they were able to keep on running.

it's such a spotlight on you and I think that's what's happening with Casemiro.

“He's still a good player, still got a place at Man United as a squad player coming on with a 1-0 lead and settling the game down with his experience.

“But when it comes to starting a game against the likes of Liverpool, City, Chelsea and Arsenal, he's not going to be able to do it."

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness is on talkSPORT right now, and he has been sharing his surprise at his old's side win over Manchester United.

Not shock at how the Reds played - that was dubbed 'outstanding' - but more the discontent around Old Trafford for such a huge game.

Man United fans made their feelings clear to manager Erik ten Hag during the emphatic 3-0 defeat to Arne Slot's men.

With the Red Devils three goals down, the decision to bring Alejandro Garnacho off was met with loud jeers from the home fans.

Gary Neville admitted United supporters don't often boo managers, and now Souness has revealed it was the first time he's heard such a reaction.

He told White & Jordan: "I think I heard a first yesterday watching on the tele, Man United are a good crowd.

"They were actually booing them - I don't think I've heard that before."

Never when you were playing?

"No never!"

Nicky Butt believes Marcus Rashford is one of the best players in the world – but he needs to leave Manchester United to tap back into that talent.

Asked what was going on with the England winger, he told talkSPORT: “I don’t know and it’s actually sad watching that because I’ve known Marcus since he was probably eight and nine at Man United coming through and he’s always been the one that you hold hope for.

“I do believe and people will be screaming down the phone now probably but I do believe he’s still got the talent to be one of the best top players in the world.

“He’s just not clicking for the last few years at Man United, you’re always saying he’s just going to do it, he’s going to do it but it’s looking like maybe it’s time for a change for him.

“No one really knows what his mentality is, but there’s a lot of talent within that man and he’s a top, top footballer.

“But it’s just not happening for Man United now, people always point to the fact of his body language, he doesn’t care, I can tell you now he does care, he’s a proper lad but he’s just not clicking for him.

“Maybe it is time to go and find a club where he can get a bit of a deep breath, the eyes aren’t on him all the time.

“He’s the excuse for all the fans, all the fans look at him and it’s not just him, the whole team, the whole squad needs to up the game.”

Former Manchester United star Nicky Butt has been on talkSPORT this morning to assess the club's current woes.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast: “I don't see a plan in the project, in the signings, I don't understand what kind of players they're going for.

“They've got a whole new set-up at Man United in the recruitment and how they go and buy players.

“But the players that we're signing, they're not superstars of their clubs.

I think what Man United are trying to do at the minute is build the squad just to get back into Europe and yesterday highlighted that fact, particularly in midfield.”

Casemiro's wife has hit back at critics of her husband following his performance in Manchester United's 3-0 defeat to Liverpool.

The Brazilian was hauled off at half-time on Sunday for Premier League debutante Toby Collyer after his errors led to Luis Diaz's two goals that had the Reds in an unassailable lead at the break.

However, taking to Instagram on Monday morning, Anna Mariana Casemiro shared a photo of her partner's incredible trophy cabinet.

Phil Foden is unlikely to link up with the England squad due to illness, according to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

Foden, last season's PFA Player of the Year, has featured for only 45 minutes this term in City's opening match against Chelsea.

The 24-year-old has been called up by new England interim boss Lee Carsley for the Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

But Guardiola believes the midfielder will not be fit enough to link up with his national side.

"I don't think so right now," said Guardiola.

"I think he will not go but I don't know.

Salah said after Liverpool's 3-0 win over Manchester United today: “I had a good summer, I had a long time to work on myself and think positively because, as you know, this is my last year at the club.

“I just want to enjoy it, and I don’t want to think about it.

“I feel free to play football, and we’ll see what happens next year.

“Heading into the game, I said ‘look, this could be the last time’.

“Nobody has spoken to me about a contract, so I’ll play my last season, and see at the end of the season.

“It’s not up to me, it’s up to the club, but we will see.”

But Dutchman Gravenberch is hoping that Salah, who's been with Liverpool for seven years, will extend his time on Merseyside.

Gravenberch told talkSPORT: "If you see him today, he is a really good player and really good for the club, but at the end the decision is for himself.

If it's me, I want Mo to stay."

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has announced that this is his last season at Anfield.

The Egyptian has enjoyed an incredible start to the campaign, being involved in every goal they've scored.

But with his contract set to expire at the end of the year, he's told Sky Sports that he will be leaving the Reds.

He said: "I had a good summer, I had a long time to work on myself and think positively because, as you know, this is my last year at the club.

"I just want to enjoy it, and I don't want to think about it.

"I feel free to play football, and we'll see what happens next year.

"Heading into the game, I said 'look, this could be the last time'.

"Nobody has spoken to me about a contract, so I'll play my last season, and see at the end of the season.

"It's a great result.
