Manchester City have inflicted a potentially damaging defeat on the top-flight after sponsorship deals were declared unlawful.

In a landmark ruling to a case that is separate from the 115 charges Pep Guardiola's club are facing, it was ruled that the English champions were unfairly blocked from agreeing two huge sponsorship deals earlier this year.

Elsewhere, Curtis Jones and Tino Livramento have been called up to the England squad ahead of the Nations League games against Greece and Finland.

Morgan Gibbs-White, Ezri Konsa and Kobbie Mainoo have all withdrawn, while there are continued injury fears over Harry Kane.

Erling Haaland has risked escalating tensions with Arsenal after admitting he has no regrets about throwing a ball at Gabriel.

The Manchester City striker was captured by TV cameras lobbing the ball at the back of the Brazilian's head in the aftermath of John Stones' late equaliser in the 2-2 draw at the Etihad.

Gabriel had his back turned to the Norwegian at the time, with his shirt over his head in frustration.

Haaland avoided punishment for the incident, with Arsenal legend Ian Wright later calling it a 'coward's move'.

However, speaking in a press conference while on national duty for Norway, Haaland played down any complaints.

"In the heat of the moment things happened in that game," he said.

"What happens on the pitch, stays on the pitch.

We were unlucky with this.”

Alejandro Garnacho has withdrawn from the squad already, but Manchester United teammate Lisandro Martínez is included.

In addition to Liverpool's Mac Allister, fellow Premier League stars Enzo Fernandez and Cristian Romero have been named in the squad.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is serving a two-match ban following his antics in Argentina's 2-1 defeat to Colombia last month.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has outlined his hopes for the remainder of his career amid continued speculation over his Liverpool future.

The boyhood Reds defender is into the final year of his contract at Anfield and has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Los Blancos to join Jude Bellingham in January.

During an interview with ITV Sport, Alexander-Arnold has revealed how he will view his career when the time comes for him to retire.

“This was a conversation I had last camp with (Eberechi) Eze when we’re going to Ireland,” Alexander-Arnold said.

He’ll follow the guidelines to get himself back to full fitness.”

Former Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi has given a cryptic response over his name being circulated in transfer rumours again.

The Spaniard emerged as a key target for the Reds this summer, but he rejected a switch to Anfield to remain at Real Sociedad.

The 25-year-old was earmarked as Arne Slot's top choice for his No.6, but the Dutchman has since struck gold with a solution in-house.

Ryan Gravenberch has been impressing in a holding midfield role this term, but Zubimendi continues to be linked with moving to England.

This time it's with Liverpool's Premier League rivals Manchester City, who will be without Rodri for the rest of the season through injury.

Zubimendi replaced his Spanish compatriot under similar circumstances at half-time of the Euro 2024 final.

La Roja were locked in a goalless stalemate with England in Germany, but Zubimendi helped inspire his country to a 2-1 win.

At his latest press conference on international duty, the midfielder was asked about rejecting Liverpool as well as the City rumours.

He replied: "My philosophy is to do what I feel like at all times.

Now I have a lot to give to Real Sociedad."

Newcastle fans may want to keep a close eye on developments abroad, as their Saudi Arabia owners are investing heavily in Spain.

The Magpies' PIF chiefs are said to be pumping money into Atletico Madrid to take the naming rights to the club's iconic stadium.

Spanish outlet Expansion report that the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund have agreed a deal over the Wanda Metropolitano.

Diego Simeone's Atletico are said to have struck an agreement with Riyadh Air to rename their stadium in a multi-million-pound deal.

The report adds that the 70,460-capacity ground will now be known as the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

Riyadh Air is already Atletico's front-of-shirt sponsor with a deal worth £40 million per-year - which is £15m more than Newcastle are raking in on their kits from Sela.

The extended deal to include the stadium's naming rights will run until 2033 and may be worth as much as £300m to Atleti over the next nine years.

The timing of the agreement is most notable, following the ruling that Premier League laws around such sponsorship contracts were deemed unlawful.

Ruud van Nistelrooy would 'never stab Erik ten Hag in the back' in pursuit of succeeding him as Manchester United boss.

That’s the view of Dutch football journalist Marcel van der Kraan who provided some insight into his fellow countryman’s future at Old Trafford.

Pressure continues to mount on Ten Hag, who has led United to their worst-ever Premier League start.

But reacting to his heated discussion with Van Nistelrooy during the goalless draw at Villa Park, Van Der Kraan has quashed theories claiming the former Man United striker is eyeing the top job.

Curtis Jones finally looks to get his senior England chance just days after his first Premier League start of the season.

The 23-year-old was named in Arne Slot's starting XI for Liverpool's 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday - his first start in the top-flight since a Merseyside derby defeat to Everton in April.

He impressed against the Eagles deputising for Dominik Szoboszlai in the No.10 role and has now joined Reds teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold in the England squad.

Jones was the Young Lions player of the tournament under Lee Carsley when England won the U21 Euros in summer 2023.

However, opportunities to make the leap and breakthrough under Gareth Southgate were hampered by injuries last season.

Southgate admitted Jones was in line for a call-up in his March squad before he suffered a season-disrupting fitness issue against Brentford.

The midfielder managed to make the expanded squad for Euro 2024 but was one of the players cut before the tournament.

Injury again prevented Carsley from drafting him into his first senior squad for the September international break.

Ironically, health concerns over Kobbie Mainoo and Morgan Gibbs-White has now opened the door for Jones to seize his chance.

“Similar to Cole (Palmer), I'm not surprised one bit (by how Jones has been doing)," said Carsley last year.

VAR should have sent the referee to the screen.”

Bukayo Saka has come to the defence of UFC icon Conor McGregor after Notorious made headlines for his Arsenal antics last week.

Reports emerged that the Gunners were considering making changes to their matchday rules after McGregor found his way onto the Emirates Stadium pitch following the club's 2-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Not only that, the Irish UFC superstar was seen playing football with Saka and Declan Rice before play-fighting with the former.

Footage captured Saka telling 'The Notorious' to be careful as a flurry of kicks and punches were thrown in his direction.

McGregor also grappled with the England winger as if he were set to throw him before stopping.

However, despite fan fears, Saka has now taken to Instagram to reassure supporters that there 'was no harm done'.

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted that England superstars Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham aren't world-class.

The former Aston Villa striker made the bold claim on talkSPORT Breakfast to argue neither the Bayern Munich striker nor his Real Madrid compatriot were in the bracket of truly elite players.

Gabby's world-class list did include Bellingham's Los Blancos teammate Kylian Mbappe and former Borussia Dortmund pal Erling Haaland.

Two of Haaland's current Man City teammates Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri both made the cut alongside Liverpool pair Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher will use Alisson’s lay-off to put himself in the shop window.

That's from talkSPORT's chief football correspondent Alex Crook in his latest transfer notebook.

Republic of Ireland international Kelleher has made no secret of his desire to leave Liverpool and remains committed to being a no.1.

Nottingham Forest were among the clubs interested in signing Kelleher in the summer and had at least one offer rejected.

While Liverpool realise the 25-year-old’s potential, they are also respectful of his personal ambitions, especially after signing Giorgi Mamardashvili as Alisson’s future successor.

The Reds value Kelleher at around £30million.

Jurgen Klopp will become the new Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull as he agrees his first new role since leaving Liverpool.

Klopp left Anfield this summer after nine illustrious seasons where he led the Premier League club to eight trophies.

“After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this,” Klopp said.

As I said, this could not excite me more.”

Alisson is set to miss at least seven Liverpool matches with his latest hamstring injury.

The Brazilian goalkeeper was forced off during their 1-0 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

He had only recently returned to the line-up having struggled with a thigh issue last month.

Liverpool expect to be without the 32-year-old for around six weeks until late November, talkSPORT understands.

It comes as a massive blow to Arne Slot, with his side set to face Chelsea, RB Leipzig, Arsenal, Brighton twice, Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa over 20 days.

Should Alisson fail to be back after the November international break, then he runs the risk of missing games against Real Madrid and Manchester City as well.

It is now the seventh injury the former Roma No.1 has picked up during the last five seasons at Anfield.

Check out his worrying record compared to the Premier League's other shot-stoppers below...
