Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has refused to rule Martin Odegaard out of the north London derby.

The Gunners captain was withdrawn in midweek for Norway in a Nations League game against Austria after he twisted his ankle.

Odegaard was then spotted on crutches as he returned to England, and various medical experts have claimed the creative midfielder faces a minimum of three weeks out.

However, Arteta seems more positive.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the north London derby, he said: "We need some more tests.

I am very happy to extend my contract and stay here for many years."

Eddie Howe did find time during a tense Newcastle pre-match press conference to laud midfield maestro Sandro Tonali.

Tonali returned to action last week after his ten-month suspension for breaching betting regulations finally ended.

The 24-year-old the Magpies' Carabao Cup penalty shootout victory at Nottingham Forest before appearing as a substitute in Sunday’s 2-1 Premier League triumph over Tottenham.

The former AC Milan midfielder was back in the Italy squad over the break and gave a timely reminder of his undoubted quality.

His assist for the Azzurri in their 3-1 win away at France in Paris went viral and Howe has become the latest to share his admiration.

Speaking about Tonali's flick to set up Federico Dimarco, Howe said: "It's typical Sandro.

For me, it is all about the games and trying to get the players fit."

Chelsea bomb-squad member Ben Chilwell has been handed a lifeline at Stamford Bridge, talkSPORT understands.

Chilwell had been exiled from Enzo Maresca’s first-team after being made surplus to requirements.

However, it is expected the England international will be named in Chelsea's Premier League squad after failing to secure a move away.

The left-back had been offered to teams with Manchester United exploring a deal in the summer.

No move materialised and talkSPORT understands he is not expected to leave.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot also refused to be drawn in on contract discussions around three of his key stars.

Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all into the final years of their Anfield deals and will be free agents next summer as things stand.

Slot said: "It's again the boring answer that you'll get from me.

Everyone can have and is entitled to have an opinion, it is okay."

Ten Hag was then pressed on whether his response to Ronaldo signals that he believes the club are in fact on the right.

The Dutchman added: "We will see where we are in May next year, it is very early in the season and it is about winning trophies, be as high as possible in the league, do everything to win every game and then we will see in May where we are in the league."

The Manchester United boss delivered a mixed update on the state of his squad ahead of Saturday's trip to Southampton.

He said: "Rasmus Hojlund and Luke Shaw, they are progressing very well but not ready for this game."

On new signing Ugarte, Ten Hag added: "Manuel Ugarte, we all have seen he played for Uruguay, he returned this afternoon, he was the only player who returned today, all the others returned yesterday so he is available for this game."

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has used an analogy of a tree to explain how his current players can make up for the loss of Ivan Toney.

England international Toney quit the Bees to sign a lucrative contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli on Deadline Day.

In terms of leaders, we have players ready to step in."

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna has stated he is fully behind Arijanet Muric following his goalkeeper's international fallout.

The 25-year-old was the Tractor Boys' No.1 during their last two games before the September break and is expected to retain his spot for the trip to Brighton on Saturday.

Muric, a summer signing from Burnley, was called up by Kosovo and played in their 3-0 defeat to Romania in his homeland on Friday.

However, he was sent back to Ipswich early for ‘breaking regulations’, revealed a statement from his national team's federation.

Local media claimed Muric had been out partying in nightclubs late along with team-mates Edon Zhegrova and Florent Muslija ahead of Kosovo's 4-0 win away at Cyprus on Monday.

The goalkeeper has since come out publicly to deny those reports, saying the 'rumours are not true at all' and that the decision to axe him was unfair.

Now, Ipswich boss McKenna has thrown his support behind Muric during his pre-match press conference this afternoon.

He said: "I've had a conversation with him, of course.

It was good to have him back in training a couple of days earlier, if I'm honest.

"We're looking to keep working on his integration into the team and I'm sure he's going to be an important player for us."

Liverpool star Ryan Gravenberch has joked with Quinten Timber over joining the Netherlands revolution at Anfield.

Timber, the twin brother of Arsenal defender Jurrien, spent two seasons playing under now-Reds boss Arne Slot at Feyenoord.

The 23-year-old still remains in the Eredivisie but has been regularly linked with following his sibling from their homeland to England.

Having impressed on Dutch duty during the international break, Timber was implored by local media to stay at Feyenoord forever.

Before he had a chance to respond, however, midfield partner Gravenberch was passing by and joked, 'Or come to Liverpool'.

Timber was publicly backed to have the quality needed to make the same leap as his brother by Slot months ago.

The Reds have been understandably linked with a move to sign him since the latter's arrival as manager, which would add to an already healthy Dutch contingent on Merseyside.

Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk wears the armband at Liverpool, with Cody Gakpo and a resurgent Gravenberch also at the club.

However, Arsenal are said to be vying to reunite the Timber brothers at club level, with Manchester United's Erik ten Hag credited with an interest.
