Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has told his players to use Harvey Barnes as an example as he prepares to return to former club Leicester for the first time.

The 27-year-old left the King Power Stadium in a £38million switch to Tyneside in July 2023 after the Foxes' relegation from the top flight, but has had to remain patient since as he vies with Anthony Gordon for a place on the left side of Howe's front three.

Gordon's recent suspension and injury have handed Barnes a chance which saw him start the Magpies' Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool and as he heads back to the East Midlands, Howe faces a difficult choice between him and the England international.

Asked what the wideman has to do to establish himself as a regular, the head coach said: "Well, I think it's continue to take your chance.

Ruben Amorim has accused Gary Neville of being ‘critical about everything’ after his no-nonsense analysis of the Manchester derby.

The former Manchester United defender didn’t hold back as he slammed the quality of Sunday’s goalless clash with Manchester City.

United mustered just two shots on target during a quiet derby at Old Trafford.

Neville launched into an explosive rant during his analysis on Sky Sports, which even saw him apologise for his own performance on co-commentary.

Amorim has now hit back with an answer that had some reporters laughing during his own post-match press conference.

When responding to a question about Neville’s comments, Amorim smiled as he said: “I understand that Gary Neville is critical about everything so I understand that part.

“Then I understand that we are in the moment that we are doing the worst season in history.

But it's what it is, it's happening everywhere I would say, not just in UK, everywhere."

Gary Neville pinpointed where Manchester United must improve in an explosive rant following their derby day draw.

The Red Devils held Manchester City to a 0-0 stalemate at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Neville's former club mustered just two shots on target during the match, where he was on co-commentary duties for Sky Sports.

Neville explained: "I think they all walked off thinking ‘we’re ok here we got away without making a mistake’.

They don't score enough goals, and they've not done for the last year or two and that's not going to change."

A group of Manchester United fans have remained inside Old Trafford after their 0-0 draw to protest against the Glazers.

Member Chris Haymes said ahead of the Manchester derby: “I think the City protest is quite a decent one for us because we’re going to get people to sit in their seats.

"MUST did a flash survey and they reckon there are going to be about 7,000 concessions, OAP people, are not going to renew their seats, so they are trying to price them out of their seats.

“We’re going to tell you to sit in your seat, that’s your seat, that’s the seat you paid for that you probably have done for the last 50 or 60 years.

“So after the game, we’re going to tell you to stay in your seat.

Man City are on the back foot though, and it's Man United who are putting on some late pressure.
