THE REDS HOLD ON TO A VITAL THREE POINTS!

Having conceded a stoppage-time equaliser to blow a 2-1 lead, history almost repeats itself for the second time in the same week.

However, Arne Slot's men, buoyed by the Anfield crowd, crawl over the line to restore their gap to Arsenal to seven points.

It looked a comfortable afternoon for Liverpool at half-time, with goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah putting the club in complete control.

The Merseysiders thought they had the chance to end the contest with a second penalty only to see it overturned for a Diogo Jota dive.

Matheus Cunha's stunning solo effort threatened to turn the narrative on its head as Wolves piled on a late onslaught.

But that decisive second goal didn't come for the away side, with Liverpool holding on for a much-needed Premier League victory.

Liverpool have won 30 of their 40 matches across all competitions this season (D6 L4), more than any other team in Europe’s big five leagues.

The only manager in the competition’s history to win more points through his first 25 matches is José Mourinho (64 – Antonio Conte also on 60).

WHAT A TACKLE FROM JARELL QUANSAH!!

How big a moment could that be in the Premier League title race - Arsenal fans will be cursing the heavens at how close Wolves have come!

Tommy Doyle is found in space inside the box around the back of Andy Robertson and he squares a dangerous ball across the face.

It looks for all the world as if Munetsi has a tap in from close range but Quansah comes from nowhere to get a vital touch in.

Virgil van Dijk then clears away the loose ball but Liverpool living dangerously in the final few minutes.

SIX minutes added time!

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, speaking to Sky Sports, first on his club's injury crisis following training this week: "Amad [Diallo] was alone, [Manuel] Ugarte was a kick.

We want to win this game, we need to win this game.

"Whatever happens in the end it is my responsibility."

WHAT A FINISH TO BRING THE VISITORS BACK INTO THIS ONE!!

Cunha scores for a third game in a row with a stunning curling finish from the edge of the box into the far corner.

Just minutes after the Brazilian had missed a guilt-edged chance from a Trent Alexander-Arnold pass, he halves Wolves' deficit.

Liverpool undone by a double change as Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota are replaced by Darwin Nunez and Conor Bradley.

The Reds are caught cold from the restart as Cunha chops inside Ryan Gravenberch and beats Alisson Becker quite spectacularly.

Cunha has scored more goals from outside the area in the Premier League this season than any other player (5)

Only Raul Jimenez in 2019-20 (17) and 2018-19 (13) has ever scored more goals in a Premier League season for Wolves than him in 2024-25 (12).

Wolves' reprieve doesn't last long as Diogo Jota is brought crashing down by a wild Emmanuel Agbadou challenge.

The referee instantly whistles for another Liverpool penalty!

The defender is already on a yellow card - could the visitors also be down to ten?

But hang on, VAR John Brooks intervenes and sends Simon Hooper to the screen - it's determined Agbadou slides past him and Jota exaggerates the contact.

No penalty - and surprisingly, no yellow card for Jota either!

SALAH DENIED A DOUBLE BY THE OFFSIDE FLAG!

The visitors had made such a positive start to the second-half and thought they'd been hit on the counter-attack.

Trademark finish from Salah as Trent Alexander-Arnold plays him in down the right before he cuts inside and finds the bottom corner.

The flag goes up and VAR agrees - still 2-0!

Quansah is on at half-time for Konate, who had been walking a tight-rope having been shown a yellow card during a testing 45 minutes.

A reverse substitution of the one Arne Slot made during his first ever Premier League match against Ipswich Town in August.

It is Quansah's first Premier League appearance of 2025, having fallen down the pecking order since that testing day at Portman Road.

Konate meanwhile scored in the reverse fixture away at Wolves earlier in the season but has struggled this afternoon.

Elsewhere, Bellegarde and Munetsi - the latter on for his Wolves debut - come on for Sarabia and Guedes.

Liverpool have scored 2+ goals in 17 successive matches at Anfield in all competitions.

That is the club's joint-longest run of scoring 2+ at home since joining the Football League in 1893 (also 17 from February to November 2019).

Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah involved in both goals, with the former deflecting home a fortuitously poor-touch from the latter early on.

Diaz then won Liverpool a penalty after being taken out by Jose Sa, from which Salah duly stepped up to score from 12 yards.

WAS THERE ANY DOUBT?!

Mohamed Salah sends Jose Sa the wrong way by going straight down the middle with a side-footed effort into the roof of the net!

In Premier League history, only Alan Shearer (56), Frank Lampard (43) and Harry Kane (33) have scored more penalty goals than Salah (32).

The Egyptian has now scored as many penalties in the Premier League as Steven Gerrard (32) - the joint-most of any player for Liverpool

DIAZ GETS A BIT OF LUCK BUT HE WON'T CARE!

Restored to his favoured left-wing position amid Cody Gakpo's injury, the Colombian has ended his recent goal drought.

It comes from Diaz's own cross for Mohamed Salah but the Egyptian's first touch is a poor one that ricochets into a dangerous area.

Toti helps it on and Diaz is first to it at the far post - it bounces off his chest on the fall which takes it past the onrushing Jose Sa.

Díaz has scored his first goal of 2025 in all competitions, ending a run of 10 games without scoring for Liverpool.

The winger has netted nine goals in the Premier League this season, his best-ever return in a campaign in the competition, whilst overall that was his 25th strike in England's top-flight.

Carragher told Sky Sports: ""Liverpool get a little bit of luck, and it's probably the only thing he can score with, Luis Diaz.

"We talk about getting a goal when you're struggling off your backside - this is off his midriff!

"Maybe that goal can give him confidence to return to the Luis Diaz we know."

What a start that would have been for Trent Alexander-Arnold on his record-breaking milestone appearance!

The home side win a corner inside 30 seconds as Mohamed Salah's cross is deflected behind.

It's a well-worked set-piece routine that title rivals Arsenal would have been proud of as Andy Robertson plays it short to Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentine returns the ball to Robertson who picks out the run of his fellow full-back who had ghosted into the box unmarked.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is making his 250th Premier League appearance today.

With his start against Wolves at Anfield, the right back has broken a record held by his idol Steven Gerrard.

Reaching such a figure at the age of 26 years and 132 days is a new club record, as per Opta.

Gerrard was previously the youngest, reaching a quarter of a century in December 2006 at the age of 26 years and 200 days.

A local lad like Gerrard, Alexander-Arnold broke into Liverpool's first team in 2016 and has since become one of Europe’s best playmakers, all from defence.

Recording back-to-back campaigns with 14 assists from 2018 to 2020, he then reached a career-high of 18 in the 2021/22 season.

Overall in the Premier League, he has 64, ranking him 19th in the league’s all-time list.

Arne Slot is facing a touchline ban following his red card after the Merseyside derby, but will be in the dugout on Sunday.

The Premier League initially reported he had been banned for two games for 'for using offensive, insulting, or abusive language' only to later delete the post.

He has until Wednesday to appeal and any ban can only be enforced once that appeal deadline has passed.

Slot confirmed in an interview before kick-off that he will in the dugout against Wolves.

He will become the youngest player to reached that figure, surpassing Steven Gerrard's record.

The Premier League's top scorer Salah, who has 22 goals and 14 assists, will be hoping to help the Reds bounce back from the 2-2 draw with Everton midweek.

Liverpool: Alisson, Van Dijk, Konate, Alexander-Arnold, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Diaz, Jota, Salah.

Subs: Bentley, Bueno, Munetsi, Traore, Doyle, Forbs, Bellegarde, Djiga, Lima.

One of those looks likely to be 19-year-old Kone, who posted on Instagram.

Mikel Merino promised to keep doing whatever Arsenal need after overcoming his initial shock at being thrown on as a makeshift striker to score a match-winning double at Leicester.

The club's failure to bring in a striker during the January transfer window was quickly compounded by losing top scorer Kai Havertz to a season-ending hamstring injury.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli are also out, meaning Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta deployed a makeshift front three that required a rejig as the Premier League title-chasers sought to find a way past lowly Leicester.

Arteta took the bold decision to bring on Merino in place of Raheem Sterling in the 69th minute and the Spain midfielder responded with an impressive brace that sealed a late 2-0 triumph.

"It was crazy for me to come on the pitch in that position," the summer signing told club media.

"It was a really, really difficult game against a good side and the pressure was on us.

"But this game is about small details sometimes, about who's more precise in the last metres.

"We were clinical in those last 20 minutes with me trying to make an impact in the box and with my team-mates just putting in some amazing balls.

"We won the game and I'm really, really, really happy."

It's been a big day of action across the Premier League with important results at all ends of the table.

Bournemouth are now just one point away from the Champions League places, while Everton's win over Crystal Palace sees them leapfrog Manchester United and Tottenham.

Meanwhile, a ten-man Ipswich's gritty draw against Aston Villa kept them within touching distance of safety.

There's still plenty of movement in the table to be had tomorrow.

The David Moyes effect is real.

Everton have picked up a huge three points against Crystal Palace, with goals from Beto and Carlos Alcaraz doing the business at Selhurst Park.

The victory means Moyes' side are unbeaten in their last five league games.

In that run, the Toffees have four wins and just one draw.

Palace may have felt hard done by with the result as they had a goal ruled out in the first half after the linesman deemed a corner had gone out before it came back in.

But they could not find a way past Jordan Pickford for a second time, leaving Everton fans with a very happy journey back home to Merseyside.

With 80 minutes gone Everton might have just found themselves a winner!

The Argentine star has slotted home from close range after a shot from Ashley Young was deflected.

Alcaraz then put the ball under Dean Henderson before heading off to celebrate in the style of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The celebration may have been questionable, but what a big goal that will be if it takes the Toffees level on points with Crystal Palace.

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!

Palace have equalised and it's their French marksman, Jean-Philippe Mateta.

After a bit of pin-ball inside Everton's box, Marc Guehi kicked the ball over his head and into the path of Mateta.

The Frenchman coolly slotted home past Jordan Pickford.

A lengthy VAR check for offside followed, but Toffees left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko ultimately kept Mateta onside by what appeared to be millimetres.
