SPURS FINALLY HAVE THAT ELUSIVE HOME WIN!

105 days Spurs fans have waited to win a Premier League home game since beating Aston Villa in November but their drought is finally over!

Tottenham have won back-to-back Premier League games (v Brentford and Manchester United) for just the second time this season (also in September v Brentford and Manchester United).

James Maddison's first goal of 2025 was enough for all three points, with a pointed celebration to the public criticism of him in midweek.

It's just the second time in their last 28 home league games that they kept a clean sheet (last doing so against Everton in August).

Tottenham are the first side to win three separate games against Man United in a single season in all competitions since Chelsea in 2012-13.

Indeed, Spurs have completed a league double over the Red Devils for the first time since 1989-90 under Terry Venables.

As for United, they remain 15th in the table on 29 points - only 12 ahead of the relegation zone with 25 Premier League matches played.

The Red Devils have lost 12 of their 25 Premier League games this season (W8 D5), their most defeats from their first 25 matches of a league campaign since 1973-74 (13) – when they were last relegated from the top-flight.

Manchester United have lost eight of their last 12 Premier League games (W3 D1); since the date of the first game in this spell (December 4th v Arsenal), the only sides to lose more matches in the competition are the current bottom two, Leicester City (9) and Southampton (10).

This is only the second time Manchester United have faced 20+ shots in a Premier League game this season.

The Red Devils also faced 24 in the reverse fixture against Spurs in September - a 3-0 defeat under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Somehow, a positive result still remains within their grasp in this one as we approach the final knocking.

But Ruben Amorim needs something special and fast!

His youthful bench hasn't had a look so far, except for a brief glance over a potential Casemiro first-half injury that was quickly settled.

Manchester United had just 33.5% possession in the opening 45 minutes, but that figure is 51.3% so far in the second half.

That extra dominance with the ball hasn't resulted in getting the visitors back on the scoresheet, however.

A reason for that might be that only three players have scored more than one away goal in the Premier League for United this season.

All of them are currently unavailable for Ruben Amorim.

Amad Diallo (3) and Lisandro Martinez (2) are both injured, with Marcus Rashford (also 2) on loan at Aston Villa.

Spurs under the cosh make a double change - how Ruben Amorim would have wished he had the capacity to do the same?

Goalscorer James Maddison and teenager Lucas Bergvall are both withdrawn, with Brennan Johnson returning from injury to come on.

Pape Sarr is the other man sent on!

NOW THE RED DEVILS GO CLOSE!

It's end-to-end in north London, as Spurs are almost punished for failing to double their lead with a quick United counter.

Alejandro Garnacho gets played down the side but drills an effort straight at Guglielmo Vicario who spreads himself big.

Garnacho has a second bite at the cherry from the opposite side after a deep cross falls kindly got him inside the box.

The Argentine's snapshot is a low effort inside the near post and requires an even better save from Vicario.

SO CLOSE TO TWO FOR SPURS!

Djed Spence does brilliantly in the build-up as he completely spins Noussair Mazraoui before galloping towards the byline.

His cut-back is flicked on by Dejan Kulusevski at the near post and comes through to Tel to take a swipe at the loose ball.

The Bayern Munich loanee is unmarked in the six-yard area but leaning back gets underneath the ball and blazes it over!

The move still gets a clap from Ange Postecoglou - who no doubt will be wishing for that second goal but his side have been impressive.

Manchester United have scored just one first-half goal in their last 10 Premier League games combined, a penalty v Brighton last month.

Spurs are winless in their last three Premier League home games when leading at half-time (D1 L2).

Surely the travelling Red Devils fans can expect more from their side after the break?

If they don't, Ruben Amorim isn't exactly blessed with options to turn around this game from his substitute's bench...

Spurs are head at home in the battle of the under-pressure managers, thanks to a goal from the returning James Maddison.

The Red Devils have been poor for large parts of the contest but arguably should have been level through Alejandro Garnacho.

The Argentine continued his recent poor run in front of goal by blazing over his side's clearest opportunity.

Meanwhile, Rasmus Højlund had the fewest touches (9) and made the fewest passes (3) of any player in the first half.

But there are reasons for Ruben Amorim to remain positive...

To run home Gary Neville's point, Casemiro has just picked up the game's first yellow card for a rash tackle on Heung-min Son.

Since his Premier League debut in August 2022, Casemiro has received more yellow cards (16) than any other United player.

The veteran Brazilian seems to be struggling with an injury in the aftermath of his challenge.

Ruben Amorim has a nervous glance towards the young subs warming up.

But fortunately for him, the former Real Madrid man gingerly returns to his feet and looks set to continue to half-time at the very least.

Gary Neville told Sky Sports: "The distance between the two centre midfielders for United is all wrong.

Shocking."

MATHYS TEL DENIED!

It's a well-worked move from Spurs to release Heung-min Son down the left and the club captain pulls a dangerous ball back for Tel.

The Bayern Munich loanee sweeps a low-driven effort towards goal that Andre Onana reacts well to beat behind for a corner.

Tel bursts a rogue balloon in frustration!

WHAT A CHANCE FOR ALEJANDRO GARNACHO!

It's brilliantly engineered by Bruno Fernandes, who finds the Argentine in acres of space inside the box.

He's got a free shot from 10 yards out as Guglielmo Vicario comes rushing out but somehow Garnacho blazes it over the crossbar.

Perhaps showing why his last Premier League goal came under Ruben Amorim's predecessor Ruud van Nistelrooy!

Of players to have at least 10 big chances in the Premier League this season, Garnacho has the worst big chance conversion rate (2/14 - 14.3%)

WHAT A START FOR SPURS!

So quickly after Guglielmo Vicario had been called into action with a quick double save to deny Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho, the home side take the lead.

It's a mistake from Andre Onana, who spills Lucas Bergvall's effort from inside the box, and Maddison reacts quickest.

The England star pounces to finish from close-range into an empty net!

Maddison has been directly involved in 11 goals in 16 Premier League starts this season (8 goals, 3 assists).

However, that is his first Premier League goal against Man United, on his 12th appearance against them in the competition.

And there's a cheeky shush to the camera after his trademark darts celebration.

A nod to Roy Keane's public criticism of him in midweek for failing to show up in the big games?

An extremely youthful Red Devils bench due to the club's injury crisis - with only Victor Lindelof boasting any Premier League experience.

Elyh Harrison (18), Harry Amass (17), Tyler Fredricson (19), Ayden Heaven (18), Lindelof (30), Jack Fletcher (17), Sekou Kone (19), Jack Moorhouse (19) and Chido Obi (17) - an average age of 19.3.

And bar Lindelof, they all have a total of 0 Premier League minutes!

Mathys Tel (19y 295d) is the youngest player to make his overall Premier League debut as a starter while playing for Spurs since Danny Rose in April 2010 v Arsenal (19y 286d)

In Tel and Lucas Bergvall, Tottenham have named two non-English teenagers in a starting XI for a Premier League game for the first time since October 2008 vs.

But it was about trying to use the experience on the pitch and everything we've got.

"When they scored, everyone gets nervous, the crowd gets nervous - but it's a massive win for us."

Liverpool didn't attempt a single shot in the second half against Wolves.

That is the first time on record (from 2003-04) that the Reds failed to register a shot in a single half of a Premier League game at Anfield.

Andy Robertson attempted to explain why to Sky Sports: "I thought Wolves were excellent second half.

"Hopefully, this can be the start of one."

THE REDS HOLD ON TO A VITAL THREE POINTS!

Having conceded a stoppage-time equaliser to blow a 2-1 lead, history almost repeats itself for the second time in the same week.

However, Arne Slot's men, buoyed by the Anfield crowd, crawl over the line to restore their gap to Arsenal to seven points.

It looked a comfortable afternoon for Liverpool at half-time, with goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah putting the club in complete control.

The Merseysiders thought they had the chance to end the contest with a second penalty only to see it overturned for a Diogo Jota dive.

Matheus Cunha's stunning solo effort threatened to turn the narrative on its head as Wolves piled on a late onslaught.

But that decisive second goal didn't come for the away side, with Liverpool holding on for a much-needed Premier League victory.

Liverpool have won 30 of their 40 matches across all competitions this season (D6 L4), more than any other team in Europe’s big five leagues.

Indeed, only in 2019-20 (37) and 1982-83 (39) have they reached 30 victories in a season in fewer games.

Liverpool have won 60 points in 25 Premier League matches under Arne Slot (W18 D6 L1).
