Manchester City have claimed a major victory over the Premier League after rules regarding commercial deals were declared void.

In a landmark ruling to a case that is separate to the 115 charges the English champions are facing, it was ruled in October that City were unfairly blocked from agreeing two huge sponsorship deals in early 2024.

An independent tribunal ruled last year that three elements of the rules regarding Associated Party Transactions (APT) were unlawful.

The Premier League dismissed these concerns and their amendments were approved by 16 of the 20 top-flight clubs the following month.

However, a further two-day hearing from the tribunal was held last month, which has now ruled that the guidelines as a whole without the unlawful elements were “void and unenforceable”.

It means that Abu Dhabi-backed City have opened the door to striking significantly higher sponsorship agreements with associated parties than previously allowed.

It also means that they'll be able to pursue compensation and costs from the Premier League for abusing its position.

In addition, other top-flight clubs could now seek damages should they believe that they have been impacted for any deals undervalued between December 2021 and November 2024.

The Premier League are facing legal costs in excess of £10million following the latest ruling.

For further context and background to what this all means and how it started, check out talkSPORT.com's article from October's ruling below.

Everton and Liverpool have been charged by the FA for failing to control their players following Wednesday's Merseyside derby.

Meanwhile Reds boss Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff have also been charged after the duo were shown a red card by referee Michael Oliver after the full-time whistle.

Slot, who allegedly acted in an 'improper manner' could be seen furious following James Tarkowski's dramatic equaliser in the 2-2 draw, believing there was a foul in the build-up.

An FA statement read: "It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way following the final whistle.

"The Liverpool manager allegedly acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards both the match referee and an assistant referee after the match had finished.

"It is alleged that Liverpool’s assistant manager acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official, which led to his dismissal.

"It is further alleged that he acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official after being sent off.

"Everton, Liverpool, Arne Slot and Sipke Hulshoff have until next Wednesday, 19 February, to provide their respective responses."

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has revealed that he wouldn't swap Alexander Isak for any other forward in the world.

The Swede is in electric form this season, scoring 19 goals in all competitions this year for the Toon.

He has overcome a niggly toe problem from the star of the campaign to establish himself as one of the best forwards around.

Of course, he is attracting attention from other teams, but the Magpies are under no pressure to sell Isak, with plenty of years left on the player's contract.

And Howe wouldn't change him for anyone.

Speaking ahead of facing Manchester City at the weekend, he said: “I love working with Alex and I wouldn’t swap him for anyone.

“We’ve tried to help him by moulding our style of play to suit his game.

He will also be assessed in a few hours."

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manuel Akanji faces two months out.

The Swiss international limped off in midweek during the Citizens' 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League play-off.

After the game, Guardiola said Akanji had suffered a muscular problem and would be assessed.

And ahead of facing Newcastle United tomorrow, the Spaniard has delivered City fans the worst possible news.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, he said: "He will undergo surgery on Saturday.

I have said many times that this club can compete for titles for the next five or 10 years, no doubt.”

The Blues are currently locked in a big battle for the Champions League places, and are out of both domestic cups.

But they are the clear favourites to win the Europa Conference League, meaning Maresca should end his first Chelsea campaign with a trophy.

Meanwhile, Maresca also revealed that the club didn't tell him he needed to get back into the Champions League this year.

He said: "The club never said to me the target is top four - when I joined this club, the target was in two years to be playing in the Champions League."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has opened up on Kai Havertz's season-ending injury.

The Gunners confirmed yesterday that a serious hamstring issue picked up in warm-weather training will rule the German out for the remainder of the campaign.

Havertz is a crucial part of Arteta's team, and the Spaniard is gutted to lose him.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, he said: "We were having a great camp in Dubai, recharging, training.

Fortunately, we have dealt with many injuries this season."

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that Sven Botman won't be fit for their clash against Manchester City this weekend.

The Dutchman sat out the Toon's 3-2 win over Birmingham City last weekend with a sore knee picked up in the Carabao Cup semi-final win over Arsenal.

Scans have revealed he's avoided serious injury, and he should be back next week.

Meanwhile, Anthony Gordon and Dan Burn are available.

But Harvey Barnes and Joelinton are still out.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Howe said: "Anthony [Gordon] should be fine; he has trained this week.

"If I could do that differently, I am hoping to do it differently next time as well."

Slot also couldn't shed too much insight into a potential ban.

He said: "There is an ongoing process and we have to respect that so I can't go into details."

talkSPORT understands that Arsenal have no plans to rush Bukayo Saka back from injury.

The England winger was spotted in training in Dubai, though, it wasn't with the ball.

This means there is no suggestion he'll be back any time soon.

And after an season-ending injury for Kai Havertz, the Gunners are prepared to take their time.

Manchester United really are cursed, aren't they because Antony has just scored for Real Betis.

It is the second goal that the winger has bagged since moving to Spain on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

His latest goal has come in Betis' Europa Conference League play-off against Gent.

This goal followed his first LaLiga one at the weekend in a 3-2 defeat to Celta Vigo.

Manchester City's season of injury woes are set to continue with Manuel Akanji set to miss the weekend's game against Newcastle United and the second leg of their Champions League tie versus Real Madrid.

The Swiss international came off midway through the second half at the Etihad with a muscular injury.

Akanji limped off after Jack Grealish had earlier on in the game, leaving Pep Guardiola's squad stretched.

Ruben Dias, John Stones and Nathan Ake have all just recently returned from their own problems, so it's unclear how they will fare having to play more minutes than expected.

But either way, it's a big blow for City.

Rafael Benitez has tipped Trent Alexander-Arnold to be a star for years to come if he joins Real Madrid.

The defender's contract at Liverpool expires in the summer and there is a growing feeling that he will move to Madrid ahead of next season.

Alexander-Arnold is eyed as one of football's most talented right-backs and former Reds boss Benitez believes he can sustain his quality at Madrid.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "He's an offensive defender, and he's played as a midfielder sometimes now.

"Real Madrid are an attacking team, they are the best team in Spain and they will be the best team in Spain even if Barcelona or Atletico Madrid are doing really well.

"Still, Real Madrid has the potential so they will always be there so for an offensive defender in an offensive team, you have more chances to assist and then create situations in attack that will be good for him as a player.

"He's doing that at Liverpool so it's not a surprise but with Real Madrid, you can guarantee that he will do that for years.

"If I, as a Liverpool fan, you would say, 'If he stays it's much better because he will give us something special.'

"But if he goes, as a Real Madrid kid all my life and also a fan in Spain, it would also be good for Real Madrid."

Enzo Maresca remains optimistic that Chelsea can enjoy a successful season despite their recent results taking a dip.

The Blues have won just three of their last ten matches in all competitions and most lost to Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round.

Their Carabao Cup exit means that Chelsea won't be lifting domestic silverware for a seventh consecutive season.

However, they are in the Premier League top four and last 16 of the UEFA Conference, with Maresca confident of their chances.

"I don't think what we have done can be cancelled or be no good.

But it will take time for him to reach the best level.

"The transfer market has just closed, and I was very unhappy that Arsenal couldn't get one more striker to add to the squad."

The EFL have revealed that the Carabao Cup final between Liverpool and Newcastle United will kick-off at 4:30pm.

The match at Wembley on Sunday, March 16 could have been starting at 8pm, but they have managed to avoid that problem.

The reason it was potentially going to be kicking off so late was because there is another Premier League game in north London that day.

Arsenal host Chelsea at the Emirates, and due to security concerns and police resources, that match has now been moved instead.

It will start at 12:30pm, and the Carabao Cup is at 4:30, which prevents tens of thousands of Newcastle and Liverpool fans from changing their travel plans.

talkSPORT understands that the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules are set to remain for at least one more season.

PSR has become a buzzword with fans and clubs, with many supporters now having to become financial experts to understand why their team can't sign anyone.

A few teams have suffered penalties for breaking the rules, and there are plenty at risk this summer as well, and talkSPORT's Alex Crook has an update for us.

He said: "The decision to delay the implementation of a new UEFA-style squad-cost ratio which limits club to spend a set percentage of their income on wages and transfer fees was effectively sealed at today's shareholders' meeting.

"The gear change comes as the Premier League faces a number of legal challenges from the likes of Manchester City if the rules are changed without proper consultation.

"This is likely to create another scramble between clubs close to breaching PSR rules come the end of June.

"It is also particularly bad news for Man United, whose minority owners INEOS who have blamed PSR for the financial woes that have seen them make 100s of redundancies."

Arsenal have confirmed the brutal news Kai Havertz is out for the remainder of the season after picking up a hamstring injury during the club's warm-weather training camp in Dubai.

"Subsequent assessments and specialist reviews have confirmed that the injury will require surgery, which will take place in the coming days," the club statement read.

"Soon after surgery, Kai will begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, which is expected to extend into pre-season preparations for next season.

"Everyone at the club is fully focused on supporting Kai to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible."

With Havertz out, it leaves Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta desperately short of attacking options over the coming months.

Gabriel Jesus is out for the season with an ACL injury while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli remain sidelined with hamstring injuries.

However, Saka was pictured participating in strength and conditioning exercises during the Dubai training camp in a pleasing sign for Gunners fans.

All eyes now turn to Arteta ahead of Arsenal's fixture away to Leicester City on Saturday and who he will name in the front three.

Leicester City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is 'happy' fans have the right to protest, but hopes they are right behind the team once their match against Arsenal kicks off.

A group of Foxes under the banner Project Reset plan to meet and air their concerns regarding the club's stunning fall from grace having won the Premier League title less than a decade ago.

Those fans involved in the protest plan to wear yellow - a colour symbolic in Thailand for its links to the monarchy - and chant in the 14th minute in reference to the bungled Adrien Silva transfer fiasco from August 2017.
