Manchester United modern-day icon Rio Ferdinand has hit back at Jamie Carragher's Casemiro claims.

The Red Devils midfielder was hooked at half time of Liverpool's 3-0 win over Man United.

The Brazilian was at fault for both of Luis Diaz's goals, and during Sky Sports' coverage of the match, Carragher said: "Leave the football before the football leaves you."

This was when he was talking about Casemiro, but Ferdinand isn't happy.

Speaking on his podcast, he said: "I heard Jamie say ‘leave the football before the football leaves you’ – I just think that’s highly disrespectful.

“I think it’s really disrespectful, especially given what my man’s won – they don’t have a trophy cabinet big enough for what he’s won.

“There’s more to it than the fact he’s made a couple of mistakes.

“I think if you look at the two games before this season, he’s arguably been Man United’s best player.

“It’s easier to say that he’s gone, he’s finished.

He’s almost 32, but when I look at him, I just feel that he’s being asked to do a lot of things like play 30-yard balls and dictate the pace of the game etc.

"These are things that Man United would never have recruited him for because he’d never been asked to do this at Real Madrid.

“He was clearing up, like security in front – slide-tackling, covering all the gaps and then giving it to other people to play football.

“But now he’s being asked to do things that he’s never done before, so he’s going to make mistakes because it’s not his natural game.”

talkSPORT understands that Victor Osimhen has agreed a season-long loan to join Galatasaray.

Napoli are happy with the deal, and the player has also accepted the move after being cut from Antonio Conte's Serie A squad.

The world-class striker nearly joined Chelsea on transfer deadline day, but a deal couldn't be agreed between Osimhen and the Blues.

But facing the prospect of not playing until January, the Nigerian international has made a brave decision to head to Turkey for a year.

talkSPORT understands that free agent Joel Matip is in talks about joining West Ham.

The centre-back was released by Liverpool earlier this summer after eight years with the Reds.

In that time, he formed an excellent partnership with Virgil van Dijk, winning the Champions League and Premier League title.

The 33-year-old has failed to find a new club since leaving Anfield, but Julen Lopetegui is keen to bring him in.

The Irons signed Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo during the summer transfer window, but they lost Angelo Ogbonna, Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd.

Matip has played at the highest level and would add some top competition at the back.

Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana arrived for international duty with a very interesting t-shirt on.

The Belgian international reported for his country's training camp with a shirt that had 'Andre is not even my name mate'.

This of course refers back to an awkward exchange he had with a reporter during Euro 2024 when a journalist tried to interview Onana and called him Andre, and not Amadou.

At the time, he was fuming, but time is a great healer, and he now has seen the funny side of the incident with an excellent t-shirt.

The transfer window in England might closed, but that doesn't mean players still can't leave Premier League clubs.

And one of the strangest deals in a long time is about to be completed, with Jamal Lewis set for a season-long loan move to Sao Paulo.

The left-back isn't part of Eddie Howe's plans at Newcastle United, with Lloyd Kelly, Lewis Hall and Matt Targett all ahead of him.

And after a move to an English or European club didn't materialise, he's set for a temporary switch to Brazil.

And after arriving in South America to complete the move, he was asked about the transfer by press, and said: "I am here to win cups and try to push up the league.

"I am super excited to meet all the Sao Paulo fans.

I can't wait to step out onto that pitch.

"The Premier League is intense and tough, so hopefully, I can bring a lot of quality and athleticism."

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino is set to miss close to two months with a shoulder injury, according to reports.

The Mail have claimed the Spain international is not expected back until the middle of October at the earliest.

The £32million man from Real Sociedad may have to wait until after the second international break of the season to make his debut.

Merino suffered a shoulder injury in his first training session with the club following a collision with Gunners defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

The 28-year-old was pictured in the stands at the Emirates in a sling during the 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been told to make a drastic call and remove Bruno Fernandes as the club captain.

The Portuguese struggled to impose himself on proceedings during the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool, with his position as skipper meaning his performance is more heavily scrutinised than those of his teammates.

"You've got your skipper out there, you've got a technical skipper, when you've got a technician as a skipper, I think it's always dangerous because they're going to have off games," Alan Pardew told talkSPORT.

"Even (Christian) Eriksen in his prime, (Michel) Platini in his prime, they'd have the off day.

That’s a liberty.

"It’s the sort of thing you’d do in training and get a telling off, never mind in a match at Old Trafford."

Kobbie Mainoo isn’t yet good enough to be a regular Manchester United starter – it’s unfair he’s being asked to carry the midfield.

That is the view of Liverpool legend Graeme Souness, who has claimed the 19-year-old has been overhyped by Red Devils fans.

Speaking on White and Jordan, he said: “I have to say this, I’m not being unkind, Mainoo might be a player, but it’s so Man United.

“This is not to be critical of Man United, it’s never been any different.

“But when someone comes on the scene at Man United, in my days they were the ‘new George Best’, or the ‘new Bobby Charlton’, the ‘new Denis Law’.

“It is FC Hollywood, they call Bayern Munich in Germany ‘FC Hollywood’, that’s Man United here.

“If anyone shows anything, they’re put into [the] superstardom category, way before they’ve even become a good player.

“And Mainoo right now should be a player that’s flitting in and out of a good team – not coming in and being asked to stand up and play against the very best teams.

“He might be a player one day, but he’s certainly not the go-to man at United like they’re making him out to be in midfield.

“They got ran over, they were not in the game yesterday.”

Arne Slot has revealed what surprised him most about Ryan Gravenberch after starting work with him at Liverpool this summer.

The 22-year-old has been a man reborn in his second season at Anfield under the new manager as the Reds' No.6

Slot was keen to sign Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi as his new holding midfielder, but having missed out, found a solution in-house.

Part of the success has been attributed to the pair's shared Dutch nationality, with Slot more familiar than most with Gravenberch's game having lived and worked in the Netherlands when the midfielder was coming through the ranks at Ajax.

The new Liverpool boss has now offered a glowing appraisal of his compatriot's ability, having played more advanced under Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking after Gravenberch's standout showing in Liverpool's 3-0 win over Manchester United, Slot assessed what qualities he can bring.

He said: "His quality on the ball could be my first answer but I think coming from the Netherlands we all know how good he is with the ball.

"He can be a really important player for our build-up game, but what impressed me most when I started working with him [was] how much he can run and then still how good he is when he arrives in the duel.

"Today, you saw with him, Dominik [Szoboszlai] and Macca [Alexis Mac Allister] how much they were able to keep on running.

"No never!"

Nicky Butt believes Marcus Rashford is one of the best players in the world – but he needs to leave Manchester United to tap back into that talent.

Asked what was going on with the England winger, he told talkSPORT: “I don’t know and it’s actually sad watching that because I’ve known Marcus since he was probably eight and nine at Man United coming through and he’s always been the one that you hold hope for.

“I do believe and people will be screaming down the phone now probably but I do believe he’s still got the talent to be one of the best top players in the world.

“He’s just not clicking for the last few years at Man United, you’re always saying he’s just going to do it, he’s going to do it but it’s looking like maybe it’s time for a change for him.

“No one really knows what his mentality is, but there’s a lot of talent within that man and he’s a top, top footballer.

“But it’s just not happening for Man United now, people always point to the fact of his body language, he doesn’t care, I can tell you now he does care, he’s a proper lad but he’s just not clicking for him.

“Maybe it is time to go and find a club where he can get a bit of a deep breath, the eyes aren’t on him all the time.

“He’s the excuse for all the fans, all the fans look at him and it’s not just him, the whole team, the whole squad needs to up the game.”

Former Manchester United star Nicky Butt has been on talkSPORT this morning to assess the club's current woes.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast: “I don't see a plan in the project, in the signings, I don't understand what kind of players they're going for.

“They've got a whole new set-up at Man United in the recruitment and how they go and buy players.

“But the players that we're signing, they're not superstars of their clubs.

I think what Man United are trying to do at the minute is build the squad just to get back into Europe and yesterday highlighted that fact, particularly in midfield.”

Casemiro's wife has hit back at critics of her husband following his performance in Manchester United's 3-0 defeat to Liverpool.

The Brazilian was hauled off at half-time on Sunday for Premier League debutante Toby Collyer after his errors led to Luis Diaz's two goals that had the Reds in an unassailable lead at the break.

However, taking to Instagram on Monday morning, Anna Mariana Casemiro shared a photo of her partner's incredible trophy cabinet.

Phil Foden is unlikely to link up with the England squad due to illness, according to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

Foden, last season's PFA Player of the Year, has featured for only 45 minutes this term in City's opening match against Chelsea.

The 24-year-old has been called up by new England interim boss Lee Carsley for the Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

But Guardiola believes the midfielder will not be fit enough to link up with his national side.

"I don't think so right now," said Guardiola.

"I think he will not go but I don't know.
