John Stones came to Manchester City's rescue with another last-gasp goal as the champions came from behind to beat Wolves.

City looked like they were going to miss the opportunity to take advantage of Arsenal's 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

But England defender Stones, who ensured the club avoided losing to the Gunners last month, popped up with another stoppage-time strike to complete a 2-1 win over Wolves - who again were left to rue a controversial call from VAR going against them.

The result has now piled the pressure on Liverpool, who can reclaim top spot with victory over Chelsea at Anfield next.

Now it's the visitors' turn to sweat over the fitness of their leading striker as Nicolas Jackson has dropped to the turf.

Worryingly for Chelsea fans, there wasn't any contact when the Senegealse made the signal for the medical team to come on.

Jackson seemingly landed funny during the taking of that shot that rattled the woodwork earlier.

Nicolas Jackson almost catches out Caoimhín Kelleher with a strike from the edge of the box that glances the outside of the bar.

Liverpool respond by almost doubling their lead as a free-flowing move sees Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo combine.

The latter finds Dominik Szoboszlai with a reverse pass on the opposite flank but his shot is a tame one into Robert Sanchez.

Mo Salah has now scored 162 Premier League goals to join Jermain Defoe in ninth spot on the competition's all-time scoring charts.

Salah has scored his 27th Premier League goal from the penalty spot with only five players recording more in Premier League history.

And even better news for Liverpool - the club have won their last 35 Premier League matches at Anfield when scoring first.

Cody Gakpo has the ball in the back of the net at full stretch but the offside flag is raised almost immediately.

Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez will be the most relieved man in the stadium as his poor clearance is pounced upon by Curtis Jones.

Jones slips through Mohamed Salah whose squared low ball is turned home by Gakpo at full stretch.

But Salah had just gone a second too early!

Mohamed Salah is up in arms inside the box after hitting the deck following a tussle with Levi Colwill.

The Egyptian spins away from the Chelsea defender outwide, who has a slight tug at him that unfoots him.

Salah retains his balance but the contact continues as they arrive inside the box but his appeals are ignored!

CHANCES AT BOTH ENDS!

Moises Caicedo is caught on the ball inside his own half but play is pulled back as Diogo Jota looked to run through on goal.

Chelsea go up the other end and Noni Madueke gets in behind Andy Robertson before cutting it back to Cole Palmer.

It looks like the net is about to bulge but Palmer's effort is blocked and cleared - last ditch defending from Liverpool.

The home side hasn't offered much in an attacking sense but they're almost gifted the opening goal from nothing!

Blues goalkeeper Robert Sanchez takes an age to clear the ball at his feet which allows Diogo Jota to close him down.

His eventual scrambled clearances is blocked by the Liverpool striker.

But fortunately for the Spaniard and Chelsea, the rebound comes back to Sanchez to clear at the second attempt.

That's as close as we've come so far - Neither team is yet to attempt a shot during the first 20 minutes of this match.

Malo Gusto wastes the visitors' first half-chance of the game!

Blues goalkeeper Robert Sanchez opens up the Liverpool backline with a 70-yard ping over the head of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

It's collected by Jadon Sancho who stands up his England compatriot but opts instead to tee up the arriving Gusto on the edge of the box.

But the Frenchman wildly mishits his half-volley into the stands!

Well now, Arsenal fans will be keen to weigh in on this one!

Tosin Adarabioyo has just hauled Diogo Jota to the ground after a ball was played over the top that looked to have put the latter away.

William Saliba was shown a red by VAR for a very similar coming together with Evanilson in Arsenal's 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

Chelsea defender Tosin escapes with just a yellow, but Jota has stayed down hurt and needs treatment from the Liverpool medical team.

Tosin only has two yellow cards across his last 12 Premier League appearances, though both have come against Liverpool (also in April for Fulham).

The 27-year-old had both arms wrapped around the Portuguese striker, who would have been away.

Levi Colwill's close proximity to the challenge has seemingly rescued Chelsea from following their London rivals in being shown red.

It's been an assured start for the Blues, but they have some concern over Moises Caicedo who has gone down hurt.

The £115million man played 90 minutes twice for his country Ecuador during the international break.

And he's come off the worse for a duel with Curtis Jones, but gets gingerly back to his feet without the need for the medical team.

Now attention turns to our second Premier League match of the day as the Reds look to reclaim top spot John Stones just took from them.

Will we see similar scenes at Anfield?

A reminder of how both Liverpool and Chelsea line-up below, as the visitors get us underway!

Caoimhín Kelleher is making his 50th appearance for Liverpool in all competitions - the first Irish player to reach that total for Liverpool since Steve Finnan in November 2004.

Chelsea's starting XI this afternoon have an average age of 23 years, 188 days - the third-youngest for a team in a Premier League game against Liverpool in the competition's history.

But more interestingly for Blues fans, Reece James made his first Premier League start for the club since 10th December 2023 in a 2-0 loss to Everton.

The Premier League's new match centre account have explained the drama that inhabited the final few minutes at Molineux.

In a post published on X, it said, 'The VAR deemed Bernardo Silva wasn’t in the line of vision and had no impact on the goalkeeper and recommended an on-field review.

'The referee overturned his original decision and a goal was awarded.'

Manchester City’s winner from John Stones after 94 minutes and 33 seconds was City’s latest winning goal in a Premier League match since November 2022, when Erling Haaland netted their winner after 94 minutes and 34 seconds against Fulham.

Manchester City secured a super late win at Wolves, and they broke a club record in the process.

But do Wolves have reason to feel aggrieved?

Bernardo Silva, standing in an offside position, wasn't adjudged to have been interfering with Jose Sa as John Stones headed home.

City remain the only team that are yet to taste defeat in the league this term and their record stretches back a long way.

The champions are unbeaten in their last 31 games, the longest run in their league history (30 from April 2017 to January 2018).

Just as Chelsea have received two huge fitness boosts, the table has turned for the home side who are without several key stars.

The Reds are already without goalkeeper Alisson Becker after the Brazilian was forced out of the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

His fellow South American Alexis Mac Allister picked up a groin issue at Selhurst Park but wasn't ruled out of international duty.

The 25-year-old didn’t feature in Argentina’s 1-1 draw against Venezuela after training alone but then started the 6-0 win over Bolivia on Wednesday.

The former Brighton star has seemingly aggravated his injury as he has been named on the bench today after undergoing an individual training session on Friday.

It'll be a huge miss to Liverpool's midfield, with Mac Allister starting every one of Arne Slot's Premier League games so far.

He scored his first Champions League goal for the club in the 2-0 win over Bologna and has started all seven Premier League matches.

His 767 combined minutes across three competitions put him as one of the most trusted Liverpool players under Slot this term.

The visitors have some concern over Bernardo Silva who is bleeding from a cut on his forehead following a kick from his own teammate!

City boss Pep Guardiola has sent on England duo Jack Grealish and Phil Foden in a bid to find a winner against Wolves.

And it's the two that are inadvertently involved in injuring Silva - but for very different reasons.

Grealish is the unassuming architect who almost unlocks the Wolves defence with a floated cross towards the back post.

Silva ghosts in unmarked and stoops low to head it when he's caught by a stray Foden boot overstretching to make contact with the ball.

Two huge returns for the visitors as captain Reece James and former Liverpool target Romeo Lavia both START for the Blues!

James is making his first competitive appearance for Chelsea under Enzo Maresca having only returned to training this week.

The England defender has been plagued with fitness concerns during his career that has seen him spend over 500 days on the sidelines.

The 24-year-old suffered a hamstring injury during his first official game as Chelsea captain on the opening weekend of the 2023/24 Premier League season - ironically, a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

That problem started James' most recent struggles with hamstring issues that curtailed his involvement for most of the last campaign.

Five months after undergoing surgery in December, James returned in the final few matches of last season but any hopes of proving his fitness to make a late case for a wildcard entry into England's Euro 2024 squad were ruined by a red card against Brighton in May.

Another injury suffered during Chelsea's pre-season tour of the USA has sidelined him for the first three months of the new season.

Lavia meanwhile makes his first Premier League start since the opening day of the season in August.

The Belgian, who chose a move to Chelsea over Liverpool in the summer of 2023, impressed in the 2-0 defeat to Man City.

He was excluded from the matchday squad for the next four games before making a late cameo appearance in the win over Brighton.

Lavia was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest before the break but has now been deemed fit to start here.

It's not been Erling Haaland's day so far!

The Norwegian had a mixed international break after becoming his country's all-time goalscorer days before he captained the side to a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria.

He's barely had a sniff so far and his first half-chance goes begging, as Savinho finds him with a cross but he can't trap the ball.

Haaland then lets his frustrations get the better of him as he plays a five-yard pass straight out for a throw-in.

Despite Man City having 79 percent possession, the player with the fewest touches to have started this match is Haaland, with 7 touches.
