The Premier League has gotten a massive boost after Arsenal’s big win over Real Madrid on Tuesday.
The Gunners secured a 3-0 win over Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.
That result, coupled with the league’s previous performance in this season’s Champions League, means that five teams from the English top flight will participate in the UCL group stage next season.
Thanks to a European Performance Spot (EPS), two teams in Europe’s top five leagues are due an extra spot in the UCL next season.
The Premier League is the first confirmed league with an extra spot, meaning that, as well as the top four-placed teams in the Premier League, the club finishing fifth in 2024/25 will go straight into the Champions League next season
In addition, the winners of this season’s Champions League and the winners of the UEFA Europa League will each be given a place in the 2025/26 Champions League if they have not already qualified for the competition through their league positions.
