Wesley Fofana could miss the rest of the season, Enzo Maresca fears.

The Chelsea defender has missed the last six Premier League matches with a hamstring injury.

Maresca has now confirmed the Frenchman could remain sidelined for an extended period.

He told reporters: "Unfortunately, there's a risk Wesley Fofana could be out for the entire season.

"Initial feeling was for five weeks but then more tests gave us bad news.

We don't know exactly yet, but it's a huge loss."

Pep Guardiola has addressed the likelihood of Manchester City making signings in January.

The transfer window is now back open for Premier League clubs to bolster their squads.

City have been linked with several additions already this month and Guardiola believes they could make signings before the window closes.

He told reporters: "I don't know right now.

To add players in the situation that we are in when there are many consistent injured players then the club has to do it, but I don't know if it will be possible to do it."

Julian Alvarez was the last first-team signing to join City in January, arriving from River Plate in 2022.

Meanwhile, Savinho and Ilkay Gundogan were Guardiola's only additions back in the summer.

Gabriel Jesus' turnaround in form has impressed Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

The Brazilian has scored six goals in his last four appearances for the Gunners.

It follows a run of one strike in his previous 20 matches for the club.

Speaking on Friday, Arteta explained: "It's about supporting our players and the players know that they have to go through some periods sometimes which is not how they planned.

"But, as well, they have to believe in themselves and we have to make sure that if one day they doubt, we are there to recognise and make sure they feel from our side how much we like them and how happy we are to have them."

The Arsenal boss also spoke highly of teenager Ethan Nwaneri following his display against Brentford.

He added: "He is a player that can play in various positions.

"It isn't a position that he has played a lot to be fair, even when he was at academy level, but he can adapt to the demands that we have in a few different positions.

I think he did really well the other day."

Several current Arsenal stars have also been linked with exits, including Celtic target Kieran Tierney.

Arteta added: "All the players that are here, they want to focus on performing and impacting the team and if something happens there then we will assess it."
