The Premier League has explained why Fulham were controversially denied a penalty in the opening minutes of their clash against Liverpool.
After Andreas Pereira robbed Ibrahima Konate in his own box, he squared the ball to Rodrigo Muniz after Caoimhin Kelleher went to ground and appeared to bring down the Fulham midfielder.
Muniz then collided with Virgil van Dijk, but Fulham's appeals for a penalty were waved away by the officials.
And the Premier League Match Centre has explained why the penalty was not given in a post on social media.
"The referee’s call of no penalty to Fulham following a challenge by Kelleher on Pereira was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed a coming together and not a reckless action," they said.
"The VAR also checked and cleared the incident between van Dijk and Muniz."
Former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I'm all for playing out from the back but I cannot see what Ibrahima Konate is trying to do there.
However, fans were not happy with the decision and felt Fulham deserved a penalty.
