Michael Oliver made his Premier League return last night as he was on VAR duty for Brighton & Hove Albion’s 3-0 win over Chelsea.
Just days before the game at the Amex, Oliver found himself at the centre of attention following a chaotic final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
Liverpool had found themselves 2-1 ahead after Mohamed Salah struck 17 minutes from time.
However, Everton rescued themselves a point when James Tarkowski hammered home an equaliser deep into stoppage time.
But the goal sparked bedlam at Goodison.
Liverpool were furious that a foul had not been awarded in the build-up before Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones were both sent off after clashing at the full-time whistle.

Slot then approached referee Oliver on the pitch and was shown a red card, while his assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, was also dismissed.
According to the FA, the Liverpool head coach "allegedly acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards both the match referee and an assistant referee after the match had finished".
But despite all the focus being on him in the fallout to Wednesday night’s game, Oliver enjoyed a relatively quiet return to action on Friday night.
However, the Premier League were forced to release a statement to explain why Enzo Fernandez's goal for Chelsea was ruled out not long after Enzo Maresca’s side fell behind.

Following a VAR review led by Oliver, a Premier League statement then said: "The referee’s call of no goal following a foul for a push by Enzo Fernández on Joël Veltman was checked and confirmed by VAR."
The 39-year-old will not return to refereeing this weekend; however, he is once again expected to be on VAR duty for Aston Villa’s home clash against Ipswich Town this afternoon.
