Brighton has completed a deal for Stefanos Tzimas on transfer deadline day, just weeks after the midfielder was linked with a move to Liverpool.
The Seagulls confirmed the transfer on Monday morning, with Tzimas returning to Nurnberg on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 19-year-old joined Nurnberg on loan from PAOK last summer with the option to make the deal permanent.
The German side activated that clause and immediately sold the player to Brighton for a reported fee of up to £21m ($25m).
“Stefanos is an exceptional young talent, an out-and-out centre-forward with a natural ability to score goals, and we are absolutely delighted to have signed him,” manager Fabian Hurzeler told the club’s website after the transfer was confirmed.
Liverpool had been linked with the player earlier this month, with Sky Germany stating the Reds were in talks with Nurnberg regarding a possible summer transfer.
The Greek youngster becomes the Seagulls’ third signing of the window along with Diego Gomez and Eiran Cashin.
Tzimas has scored 10 goals in 17 appearances in the German second tier and has also been capped by the Greece Under-21 side.
While it has been a busy transfer deadline day on the south coast, at Anfield things have been a little quieter
