One Premier League club has held discussions over signing Kevin De Bruyne this summer.
The Belgian international will officially end his ten-year stay at the Etihad this season when his current Manchester City contract expires.
De Bruyne joined City from Vfl Wolfsburg back in August 2015 in a £55m move.
Since his transfer to the Premier League, the 33-year-old has established himself as one of the best players in the world.
Since making his debut for City, no other midfielder has had more assists than him across Europe’s top five leagues.
De Bruyne has 107 goals and 177 assists in 415 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side.
His passing and vision were key in City’s dominance in the last eight years under Guardiola.
But he will depart the club at the expiration of his contract.
A recent report from Belgium tipped Liverpool as a potential next destination for the Belgian.
The outlet mentions his Grandfather’s support for the Reds as one reason, while also referring to De Bruyne’s claim that a Premier League stay is “possible” beyond this summer.
The player himself opened the door to a potential move to a Premier League side despite interest from oil-rich Saudi Pro League clubs.
“I don’t know.
It could be not,” De Bruyne told Viaplay about a potential move to another Premier League club.
“It’s very hard because the decision of leaving is not been long so nothing can be decided in a week.
“In the football world, I don’t think everything comes in a week.
I love football.
“I love to play football, and if a nice project comes, and my family is good with that, then we are able to make a decision.”
And now it appears that Aston Villa are planning to make a move for the Belgian.
This is according to Sky Sports, who claim that Unai Emery’s side “have held internal discussions about a potential move for Kevin De Bruyne.”
The outlet claims that “Villa could be interested in signing the 33-year-old midfielder when he departs City,” adding that the Belgian’s “reluctance to uproot his family and prioritising his football and home life when making a decision on his next destination has alerted several Premier League clubs.”
