The Premier League have confirmed why Liverpool were awarded a second penalty in their 3-1 win against Southampton.
The Reds made sure of all three points when Mohamed Salah converted a second spot-kick after VAR intervened over a handball in the penalty area by Yukinari Sugawara.
Referee Lewis Smith did not originally award a penalty following the incident before being referred over to the VAR monitor.
In a post on social media, the Premier League have explained the overturn, saying: "VAR checked the referee’s call of no penalty for a possible handball by Sugawara – and deemed that he made a deliberate movement towards the ball with his arm, therefore recommended an on-field review.
The referee then awarded a penalty to Liverpool."
A mix-up between Alisson and Virgil van Dijk meant that Liverpool actually trailed at half-time against the Premier League's basement team.
But Darwin Nunez struck just six minutes after the interval to wipe out Will Smallbone's opener.
Salah's first penalty was dispatched to complete the turnaround in the 54th minute.
