'Probably': Thomas Frank shares the 'toughest' away ground in the Premier League - Anfield or St. James' Park

Liverpool have had another top season of home form at Anfield having made the stadium a fortress under Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp barely lost at all at the Reds’ home ground during his nine years in charge of the team.

And although Arne Slot lost just his second Premier League match of the season at Anfield – against Nottingham Forest – his tenure has since followed a similar trend.

Liverpool were stunned by PSG in the Champions League on home turf, but other than that, the Reds are unbeaten at Anfield under Slot.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have turned St.

James’ Park into one of the most difficult stadiums to visit during their resurgence under Eddie Howe.

One manager who knows both grounds well as a visiting team is Brentford manager Thomas Frank.

And having been asked to pick between Anfield and St James’ Park, Frank has now named his ‘toughest’ away ground.

Now in charge of Brentford’s fourth season in the Premier League, Frank has visited both of these stadiums four times.

He has also had plenty of experience at both Old Trafford and the Etihad Stadium.

So, Frank is well placed to pick the most difficult to visit.

And that’s exactly what he was asked to do during a sit-down interview with Sky Sports on Thursday.

After hailing different aspects of the other stadiums, it was not a surprise to hear the Dane reveal that he considers Anfield the toughest of them all.

“I would say probably the toughest place to go with everything, is Anfield,” he said.

Asked if he prepares Brentford differently for a trip to Merseyside, though, Frank suggested he did not.

“It’s the same our own preparation but it’s for different teams, different managers, different tweaks tactically.”

Frank has often been complimentary of Liverpool during his time in the Premier League and has also never even managed a point against the Reds on their home turf.

As a result it is not a huge surprise to hear him pick Anfield as his most difficult ground.

Nevertheless, the Danish coach stopped short of naming Liverpool fans as the best he has encountered, surprisingly opting for Newcastle as having the most consistently passionate supporter base.

“If I’m honest the Newcastle fans are probably the best on a regular basis,” he said.

“We all know about the Liverpool fans which are amazing and the European nights and all that.
