'Rapid': Amadou Onana says Liverpool have an unbelievably fast player who is a nightmare to play against

Liverpool remain the team to beat heading into another Premier League weekend.

Having navigated past Everton on Wednesday, the Reds can take another step towards title glory by beating Fulham on Sunday.

Before that, Liverpool will be hoping for a favour from their rivals, with Everton hosting Arsenal in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Aston Villa have been having themselves another good season.

In the Champions League quarter-finals where they’ll face Liverpool’s conquerors PSG and into the semi-finals of the FA Cup, Villa could yet have a special ending to the campaign.

Midfielder Amadou Onana has proven to be a good addition for the Villains after arriving from Everton last summer.

But as good as Onana has been, he says there is one Liverpool player who he has really struggled coming up against.

Since hiring Unai Emery in 2022, Villa have become one of the toughest fixtures in the Premier League.

But according to Onana, this is nothing compared to coming face-to-face with Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.

Asked to name his toughest opponent during a sit down with Sky Sports Premier League, the Belgian had no hesitation in picking Salah.

“I didn’t play directly against him, not in a one-v-one, but we played against Liverpool and I think Mo Salah at the minute is just the main man,” he said.

Asked what makes Salah so difficult to play against, Onana admitted the the Egyptian simply ‘has it all.

“He’s really rapid, sharp, he’s got the finish, skilful, he’s got it all,” he answered.

“I think if he carries on doing what he’s doing this might be a Ballon d’Or season.”

Many supporters will not give a flying hoot who wins the Ballon d’Or in 2025, so long as Liverpool can wrap up the Premier League title.

However, there is no doubt that the players themselves do put stock into the award and that includes Salah himself.

Mo will want to win it.

After Liverpool lost in the Champions League against PSG, though, it now seems unlikely that the 32-year-old will be named the world’s best player this year.

The likes of Ousmane Dembele, Harry Kane, Raphinha and a handful of Real Madrid players will have their eye on the gong too.

Still in with a chance of winning the Champions League, they may all have a better shot at Salah.

Mo is set to end as the top scorer and assister in a Premier League winning team, and perhaps that will be enough in the end.
