With mere months left until the beginning of the summer transfer window, Liverpool are playing a very dangerous game.

The Reds could yet end up with an incredible haul of trophies this season as they gun for the biggest prizes in the game.

However, with February soon to bleed into March, the contracts of star trio Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold remain unresolved.

Of the three, Van Dijk had been deemed most likely to stay, with the Liverpool captain seen as being absolutely crucial to the club.

But with time starting to run out, Van Dijk is edging closer towards the Anfield exit door.

Now, speaking exclusively to Rousing The Kop, transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey says top European sides are queuing up to hand Van Dijk a pathway out of Liverpool.

Clearly, Liverpool supporters would love to see all three of Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold stay.

But if there’s one who stands out as being indispensable above all, then it is the captain.

He is yet to miss a minute in the Premier League this season.

According to Bailey, though, the ‘shock’ of Van Dijk not yet putting pen to paper on a new contract is now sparking other clubs into action.

“It has not come as a surprise to me that interest is mounting in Van Dijk’s situation,” he says.

We are not far off March and for Van Dijk’s agreement still not to be in place is a shock to many, including the Dutchman himself.

“The deal on offer is not acceptable to him, whether FSG and the club’s hierarchy can finalise an agreement remains to be seen.”

“But I am told that most of Europe’s elite would be open to talking with Van Dijk,” Bailey adds.

“It has to be pointed out that Van Dijk’s camp have not been pursuing other clubs, but they haven’t needed to.

“The Premier League’s best defender this season could very well be available for free and there are ‘multi-year’ offers ready to be presented to him.

“I never envisioned the situation that Van Dijk, Trent and Salah could all leave, but as we stand now it is a real possibility.”

Clearly, Van Dijk would be a huge coup for any club who could land him on a free transfer in the summer.

The 33-year-old is still the best in his position in world football and does not appear to be slowing any time soon.

And according to Bailey, there would be no shortage of suitors for Van Dijk should Liverpool continue dragging their feet.

“Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are all amongst the clubs who would be willing to talk to Van Dijk about the prospect of a free transfer at the end of season, should he be on the move,” he says.

There’s still time for Liverpool do get this sorted, but it’s starting to get complicated.
