Liverpool fans have a little while to wait before they can get Sunday’s Carabao Cup final defeat out of their systems.
The Reds have had a disastrous week, first being knocked out of the Champions League by PSG and then allowing Newcastle to win their first trophy in 70 years.
In the grand scheme of things, perhaps the last international break comes at a good time for Liverpool.
Without matches to focus on, transfer rumours are starting to ramp up in the meantime.
It promises to be a busy summer at Anfield.
One of those reportedly being targeted by Liverpool is Newcastle forward Alexander Isak.
But after Isak grabbed the winner in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final, it was one of his Magpies teammates who was spotted in deep discussion with a Liverpool player.

If you’d have asked fans nine months or so ago which Newcastle player they’d have most wanted in the Liverpool squad, it would not have been Isak who many answered.
Instead, Anthony Gordon was the man who seemed most likely to be pulling on the red of Liverpool.

Fast forward towards this summer’s window, and rumours that Gordon could end up at Liverpool have not gone away.
One reason for that is the 24-year-old’s close friendship with Curtis Jones.
And despite having just beaten his mate to the trophy on Sunday, The Daily Mail spotted Gordon deep in conversation with Jones at Wembley on Sunday.
“Curtis Jones spent around 20 minutes chatting to Anthony Gordon in the Wembley corridors after the Carabao Cup final on Sunday,” says Mail journalist Lewis Steele.

“The pair know each other well from England duty – both seniors and Under 21s – but one cannot help thinking that Gordon, who was offered to Liverpool last summer, would improve this team.
“No signs at this stage that any resurrection of that mooted move will happen in the future, but it was a classy touch from Jones to get over the annoyance of losing the final to congratulate his good pal Gordon and have a lengthy chin-wag.”
Sunday would have been an incredibly bittersweet day for Gordon.
He did win the first trophy of his professional career, but did so while being banned from playing.
Furthermore, the Scouser’s family are Reds, and while that may have increased his desire to beat them, it will also have meant upsetting people close to him.
Gordon could of course end that strange kind of limbo by pushing for a move to Liverpool this summer.
With Liverpool potentially selling Luis Diaz, there may be a spot opening up on the left side of the Reds’ attack.
Gordon would be a prime candidate to fill it.
As Steele points out, there are seemingly no concrete signs that the move which came so close to happening last summer could be resurrected.
But given how close these two obviously are – and the clear interest from Liverpool – you certainly can’t rule it out.
