Report: How long Jayden Danns is set to be injured for after Liverpool youngster joins Sunderland on-loan

The fallout from Liverpool’s quiet transfer window is continuing on Tuesday as some loose ends are tied up.

The Reds chose to remain inactive for a second January market in succession, clearly believing that Arne Slot has enough at his disposal for the rest of the season.

Not only that, but Liverpool did also trim the squad ever so slightly, with a number of young players heading out on-loan.

One of those who had looked destined for a January move was striker Jayden Danns.

However, with Danns’ proposed move to Sunderland yet to be announced as Monday’s deadline passed, it seemed as though something may have gone wrong.

Ultimately, the move had been finalised and was formally reported on Tuesday.

But there was indeed an issue: Danns has picked up an injury.

As the 19-year-old deals with a frustrating start to life in the North East, an update has been given on when he can expect to be back playing.

This is really disappointing news.

Sunderland looks like a good move for Danns, with Regis Le Bris’ team gunning for promotion with a really young squad.

But having seen a loan transfer to Plymouth fall through at the start of the season because of injury, Danns’ fitness has flared up once again.

And according to The Athletic, it could be ‘several weeks’ until the youngster is able to play for Sunderland.

They report that Danns will remain at the Liverpool training ground to undergo rehabilitation for a back injury.

Despite the fact that they may not see him for a little while, there is said to be ‘optimism’ at Sunderland that Danns can still make an impact at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland’s season could go into late May if they qualify for the Championship play-offs, as looks probable, so there is still plenty of time for the Liverpool forward to be involved.

It is not a surprise that Danns has picked up a knock.

The teenager was on the end of some incredibly rough treatment during last week’s loss against PSV Eindhoven.

Of course, Danns was not supposed to play in that game, but illness to Darwin Nunez forced Slot’s hand.

Nevertheless, perhaps in hindsight the Liverpool head coach should have thrown one of the other youngsters in instead.

It was a proud night as Danns made history for Liverpool, but it appears to have come at a cost.

Sunderland fans have every right to feel frustrated for now, but once Jayden is back fit he will surely prove to be worth the wait.
