Liverpool’s summer transfer window promises to be a busy one in 2025.
The Reds were quiet throughout 2024, signing only two players across the January and summer markets.
One of those who was brought in was Giorgi Mamardashvili.
However, with Liverpool already boasting two excellent goalkeepers, Mamardashvili stayed with Valencia until the end of the current campaign.
The Georgian is extremely highly rated and although Alisson Becker is not expected to leave, the expectation is that Mamardashvili can be Liverpool’s long-term number one.
Unfortunately, the 24-year-old has been having a tough time of things with Valencia this season, though.
And with the Spanish side mired in relegation trouble, a worrying verdict has been issued on the form of Mamardashvili.

Mamardashvili’s form was praised in the weeks following his transfer to Liverpool, with the Georgia international looking like his old self.
However, things have become a real slog for Valencia in the meantime, with Los Che recently conceding 12 goals across two games against Barcelona.

Mamardashvili was between the sticks for both of those, and according to The Daily Mail, it contributed to the keeper conceding the fourth most goals in La Liga per 90 minutes.
Mamardashvili also reportedly has the second lowest save percentage record of any goalkeeper in the division, has conceded 2.6 more goals than expected and has made two errors leading to goals.

According to insiders in Spain, the Liverpool loanee has suffered a ‘disappointing decline’ since signing for the Reds.
However, insiders are also still said to believe that Liverpool underpaid for Mamardashvili and have acknowledged that Valencia has been a ‘challenging environment’ for the goalie to shine in.
If – as expected – Alisson remains as first choice at Liverpool next season, then 2025/26 should be a good time for Mamardashvili to learn the ropes.

As Alisson’s number two, there will be little expectation on him to perform week in, week out.
The hope will be that this will hone Mamardashvili’s skills and prepare him to take over from Alisson once the time is right.
Clearly, Liverpool would rather Mamardashvili be playing well in the lead up to his arrival in the summer.
But in a team doing so poorly, his form probably has little consequence.
Nevertheless, with a question mark still over exactly what Giorgi’s role will be at Liverpool in the future, this is still a worrying report.
