Report: Liverpool have made a decision on what to do with Stefan Bajcetic after Real Betis U-turn

January represents a chance for Liverpool to assess what’s going on with their legion of players away from the club on-loan.

By the middle of the season it is usually clear who is making it work out on-loan and who may need to have a rethink for the rest of the season.

One player who perhaps sits in the latter of these two categories this season is midfielder Stefan Bajcetic.

Bajcetic joined RB Salzburg in a surprise move before the campaign began, linking up with former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders.

But after Lijnders was sacked following a poor start to his tenure as manager, Bajcetic has fallen out of favour at Salzburg.

As Rousing The Kop exclusively revealed on Saturday, Liverpool have been in talks with Bajcetic over a mid-season return to Anfield.

And with those talks still ongoing, the Reds have reportedly now made a decision.

As RTK reported over the weekend, Bajcetic’s potential move back to Liverpool was being pushed for by the player himself, not either of the clubs involved.

However, after the news broke of discussions between the Reds and the young Spaniard, reports emerged that Real Betis are looking to sign Bajcetic for the second half of the season.

The Spanish side are said to have been in ‘advanced talks’ over taking the 20-year-old from Salzburg to Seville.

However, despite discussions between the parties said to have been moving forward over the weekend, nothing has yet been agreed.

And according to The Daily Mail, this could well be Liverpool’s doing.

They claim that while Betis have ’emerged as an option’ to give Bajcetic a way out of Austria, Liverpool are in fact still planning for the Spain U21 star to see out the season with Salzburg.

You can understand why Liverpool want to keep Bajcetic where is for the time being.

After a terrible couple of years for him, some stability is needed.

Despite Stefan’s apparant unhappiness at Salzburg, he is still getting a decent amount of game time to get his match fitness back once again.

Betis would represent a step up in level for Bajcetic but perhaps that would come with a trade-off in terms of minutes on the pitch.

In our opinion, though, the best thing for Liverpool to do would be to bring Bajcetic back into the squad at Anfield.

He may not play too much under Arne Slot, but the youngster could still be an option in a midfield which still looks a little light.
