Liverpool look likely to undergo some significant changes to the playing squad during the summer transfer window.

The Reds have been quiet over the past 18 months in terms of new additions, but are set to see that change in 2025.

Supporters will be hoping that there are no major departures, but with the futures of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the balance, that feels like wishful thinking.

Even if the star trio do stay on at Liverpool, though, Arne Slot seems likely to ring the changes.

One incoming which has already been rubber-stamped is that of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who signed last year before heading back to Valencia on loan.

Mamardashvili has had a difficult season with Valencia, however.

And ahead of his arrival at Anfield it has now been suggested that Liverpool are keen for him to make improvements in one area of his game.

What happens with Mamardashvili and the wider Liverpool goalkeeping department will be one of the most intriguing subplots of the summer.

There have been recent suggestions that Mamardashvili does not want to be second choice for the Reds and with Alisson Becker going nowhere, this could lead to another loan.

As per information in a new report from The Athletic, it appears that that may not be a bad idea.

They claim that Liverpool have been scouting Mamardashvili since the start of 2023.

However, although they are said to have ‘immediately liked’ the Georgian’s shot-stopping, they reportedly held ‘reservations’ over his kicking.

This is something that Mamardashvili is claimed to have been working on at Valencia, with the Spanish club delivering specific training in order to help him.

And although insiders have reportedly noticed ‘steady improvement’ in the 24-year-old’s distribution, he is still noted for having a relatively low 66% passing accuracy for Valencia this season, although 44% of his kicks are said to be long, which goes some way to explaining this.

As well as adding some extra information on what Liverpool can expect from Mamardashvili in possession, The Athletic give some insight into how he is preparing for his move this summer.

Joining one year ahead of time has allowed the Georgia international to fully come to terms with the idea of playing for Liverpool.

And it’s claimed that Mamardashvili began taking English language lessons soon after his transfer to the Reds was confirmed in August.

The keeper is also said to have been recently checking living arrangements as the end of the season draws closer.

For Liverpool’s part, they have reportedly been checking in regularly with Mamardashvili and have been monitoring every one of his games for Valencia.
