Liverpool are cruising in the Premier League title race, so-much-so that attentions have already been directed towards the summer transfer window.

The upcoming off-season is expected to be a big one for the Reds, with Liverpool planning to improve at least five positions as Arne Slot looks to once again evolve the squad into turn into the next great dynasty in English football.

One position that could see multiple signings this summer is centre-back, with Virgil van Dijk’s Liverpool future yet to be resolved as the Anfield side are currently looking at bringing in a top youngster who can grow into the role over the coming years.

And it appears that Liverpool have identified that player already, who this season has been one of the breakout stars in the Premier League.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool have started talks to sign AFC Bournemouth youngster Dean Huijsen, with a bid worth £29m expected to be made soon for the 19-year-old centre-back heading into the summer.

The Amsterdam-born Spanish youth international has been one of the revelations of the season having joined the Cherries last summer, with Liverpool actually interested in signing Huijsen before the defender opted to move to Bournemouth.

Noted as a ‘unique’ talent, Huijsen’s performances have caught the eye of some of the biggest clubs in football, including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Arsenal, who are all keeping tabs on the Bournemouth star.

Yet with Liverpool eager to sign a new central defender and having had prior interest in Huijsen, the Reds should feel confident in their abilities to win the race for the centre-back, who could become a real hit at Anfield in the years to come.

Central defence is clearly an area that Liverpool are ready to invest heavily in this summer, with the Reds keen to put in the pieces needed to eventually move on from Van Dijk and to find a new long-term partner for Ibrahima Konate.

And rumours leading into the summer have been exciting, with Liverpool in the mix to sign VfL Wolfsburg youngster Konstantinos Koulierakis, who like Huijsen, is enjoying a breakout year having made the move to one of Europe’s major leagues.

With Liverpool also keeping tabs on Ajax wonderkid Jorrel Hato, it’s clear that the Reds have a profile in mind for what they want this summer in a defender, with an exciting addition likely to be made once the transfer window is open.
