Liverpool are looking to the January window to help cement their title bid and could now take advantage of the dire financial situation at Lyon to make a bargain buy.

The Reds sit top of the league but there’s no time to rest on their laurels with both Man City and Arsenal expected to add new players in January.

For Liverpool, additions at the top of the pitch are likely to be welcomed by Arne Slot.

Indeed, with Federico Chiesa potentially going back to Italy, there could be an opening in the squad for a new forward.

And according to TuttoJuve, the Reds have indeed made a bid for a new attacker.

According to the report from Italy, both Liverpool and Chelsea have lodged bids for Lyon star Rayan Cherki.

The French international is one of the top players in Ligue 1, albeit he is a very modest goal tally over the last few seasons.

Cherki managed just the single goal in the league last season and he’s only struck once this season as well.

However, at just 21, there is a high ceiling for Cherki and it’s suggested that Liverpool and Chelsea have both made £17m bids for him.

Lyon, of course, are in a dire financial situation with debts of around £500m to deal with, meaning Cherki and others could be sold on in January.

Nobody is looking at the basic stat lines of Rayan Cherki and being blown away.

However, he’s already very much on the radar of the French national team and has already represented the under-23s.

Indeed, Cherki has also been branded a ‘lethal‘ finisher on his day and over time, he should improve further.

Furthermore, Cherki can play in a number of positions across the frontline and just like Luis Diaz, Mo Salah and Diogo Jota, that is something that Arne Slot values.

With Cherki, he might not necessarily fire Liverpool to success this season but with a potential fire-sale at Lyon, spending £18m on a future French international could be a smart move for the club.
