Liverpool are keeping their eyes open for potential centre-back signings.
The Reds have not brought in a new defender since 2021 and are likely to have to rectify that next summer at the latest.
Although Rousing The Kop understands it is likely that Virgil van Dijk stays with Liverpool and signs a new contract, Arne Slot could still do with more back-up.
Joe Gomez’s future is not certain after strong rumours of an exit before the season started and if the long-serving utility man is to go, he will need to be replaced.
That could prove to be an expensive business for Liverpool and they would be wise to get their ducks in a row as early as possible.
As part of that process it’s likely that the Reds will look at a whole host of different options, with one surprising name from the Premier League reportedly on their agenda.

Even with so long to go until the summer transfer window, there are already lots of names being linked with Liverpool.
Many of these are defenders.
Nottingham Forest’s Murillo is said to be an active target, with Liverpool reportedly set to watch the Brazilian over the rest of the season before making a decision on his signing.

Murillo has been one of the standout players in Forest’s surprise march up the table and has understandably come onto the radar at Anfield.
Another team who are potentially surprising a few this term are Fulham.
And according to Caught Offside, Liverpool also have one eye on Marco Silva’s defence for possible new additions.

They claim that the Reds are ‘showing an interest’ in centre-back Joachim Andersen.
The 28-year-old is reportedly ‘one of the names on the list’ of Liverpool as they scour the market for defensive additions.
However, it is also said that ‘nothing has been decided’ on Andersen and there’s ‘no guarantee’ that Liverpool take their interest any further.
Upon initially reading these rumours, many Liverpool fans will likely dismiss them relatively out of hand.
That is not the kind of deal Liverpool tend to be interested in doing.
Throw into the mix the fact that Andersen got Darwin Nunez sent off back on his Anfield debut in 2022 and he would seem like an unlikely target for the Reds.

Nevertheless, Andersen is a very good Premier League defender.
If Liverpool are looking to replace Gomez and not Van Dijk, there could be some sense to this.
Former Crystal Palace and Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson called Andersen a ‘colossus‘ back in August 2023 and as experienced cover for the Liverpool defence there wouldn’t be many around better than the Denmark international.
