Liverpool are in the market for an attacker heading into the summer, and Ademola Lookman has emerged as a target for the Reds.
The Atalanta attacker has had a meteoric 12 months with the Serie A side after scoring a hat-trick in last year’s UEFA Europa League final, with Liverpool now interested in signing Lookman as a potential option for the forward line next season.
With 17 goals and seven assists in all competitions for the Bergamo-based side, Lookman returning to the Premier League for Liverpool would be quite the move for the Nigeria international, who was once on Everton’s books before making the move abroad.
Yet Liverpool could see their hopes of signing Lookman already dashed based on how much the Reds are willing to offer Atalanta for the 27-year-old striker.

According to TeamTalk, Liverpool are now ‘very likely to fail’ in their attempt to sign Lookman with the Reds only willing to pay as much as £37m for the former RB Leipzig superstar, with Atalanta wanting £54m for the Nigerian.
With Inter Milan and PSG also interested in signing Lookman, there’s a real chance that Liverpool could now miss out on the chance to bring the forward back to Merseyside, where the Atalanta star could flourish under Arne Slot.
Indeed, Darwin Nunez’s potential exit from Liverpool opens up the door for the Reds to make a top attacking signing in the summer, a role that Lookman would have filled perfectly if Atalanta’s demands weren’t as high as they were.

However, with Liverpool offering well below what Atalanta are looking for in order to sell Lookman, the odds of the Reds landing the versatile attacker seem incredibly low, a prospect that could force a change in strategy once the summer transfer window rolls around.

Liverpool look set to break the bank in a big way this summer, with every outfield position virtually set for an improvement or two if Slot can get his way in the market and if the right players become available, even with Lookman now off the table.
Alexander Isak has been rumored with Liverpool whilst the Reds remain interested in Juventus wonderkid Kenan Yildiz, two players who could be incredible alternatives to Lookman, even if the pair could be as expensive as the Atalanta man.
With funds set to be made available for a top attacker should Nunez leave this summer, Liverpool could make quite the play in the market if they can pull off a world-class signing, especially with Lookman now proving to be too expensive for the Reds.
