Liverpool are set for one of their busiest transfer windows in recent memory this summer, with Joshua Kimmich likely to be a regular fixture in the rumour mill.

News broke last week that Bayern Munich had withdrawn its contract offer for Kimmich, all but confirming that the Germany international will leave the Bundesliga giants at the end of this season as a free agent.

With Liverpool interested in signing Kimmich, the former RB Leipzig star could soon emerge as a top target for the Reds given how perfect the 30-year-old midfielder could be for Arne Slot’s side due to his ability to operate at a world-class level in multiple positions.

Yet a problem has already emerged for Liverpool when it comes to signing Kimmich, specifically in regard to the German’s current wages with Bayern.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are not willing to match Kimmich’s £320,000-a-week financial package that the midfielder currently earns at Bayern, with the Reds expected to offer a deal at a much lower price.

With Mohamed Salah the only Liverpool player earning over £300,000-a-week, handing Kimmich a deal in the same ballpark as the Egyptian international would be viewed by many supporters as a financially reckless decision.

Moreover, with Kimmich turning 30 last month, such a wage package could burden Liverpool for many years to come when it comes to handing new contracts to other players and investing in the transfer market for new signings.

Indeed, Kimmich opting to lower his wages would be a win-win solution for everyone at Liverpool, yet with the midfielder at the prime of his career and attracting interest from virtually every big club in Europe, the Germany international could see fit to make the contract demands he wants.

With Salah tipped to win the Ballon d’Or this year, the Egyptian international more than warrants his £350,000-a-week contract, with Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker the only two players to break the £200,000-a-week threshold.

Whould Kimmich sign for Liverpool, there’s every chance that the Germany international will join the £200,000-a-week group given his current wages at Bayer, yet the financial risk could be worth it given the quality the 30-year-old midfielder possesses.
