Report: Liverpool staff think one of the most exciting midfield prospects in Europe is already at the club

As always, Liverpool players have had a mixed time of things during loan spells in 2024/25.

There have been some – such as Ben Doak – who have enhanced their reputations after finding first-team football away from Anfield.

But there are others who have struggled to adapt to life outside of Liverpool and have seen their development stall as a result.

One who unfortunately falls into this bracket is midfielder Stefan Bajcetic.

Bajcetic has had a rough time with injuries over the past two years and after failing to settle fully at RB Salzburg has now joined La Liga club Las Palmas for the second half of the campaign.

With the 20-year-old having a difficult season so far, it has been revealed how Liverpool staff currently view Bajcetic and his potential to be a senior player for the Reds.

Things took a promising turn for Bajcetic after making his Las Palmas debut against Girona on Monday.

In theory, the Spain U21 international should be more suited to playing in La Liga, having come through the youth ranks at Celta Vigo.

And Bajcetic impressed the local Spanish journalists after featuring for just 25 minutes on his first outing in the division.

Things are looking up again.

According to The Athletic, though, Liverpool do not need any convincing.

They claim that ‘senior staff’ back at Anfield still think that Bajcetic is one of the most exciting young defensive midfielders in Europe.

Despite another season of some turmoil for the Spaniard, there appears to be an expectation that he’ll be back around the first-team in 2025/26.

As well as giving an update on Bajcetic, The Athletic also highlight the statuses of Liverpool’s other loan players this season.

Inevitably, Doak is the standout, with insiders reportedly insisting that if they did not already own the player, they would be putting together a lengthy dossier on the 19-year-old.

Liverpool’s plan is said to be to bring Doak back in pre-season for him to ‘stake a claim’ for a spot in the side next term.

Meanwhile, it’s claimed that left-back Owen Beck is catching the eye at Blackburn, while Lewis Koumas is another impressing his parent club.

Staff are also said to believe that those who have had difficult times – such as Kaide Gordon and Calvin Ramsay – have benefitted from going through tough spells which will benefit them in the long-run.
