Liverpool are preparing to overhaul their squad in a big way in the summer, with the defence arguably the area that needs the most work.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pending move to Real Madrid means that depth is needed at right-back, whilst Jamie Carragher has called upon Liverpool to overhaul the left-back position with Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas likely to be replaced.
With Virgil van Dijk’s future at Liverpool also yet to be resolved, there’s a real chance that every area of the defence could see one or even two new signings this summer, with Madrid also eyeing Ibrahima Konate.
Yet there is another defender the Spanish giants are now also keeping eyes on, one that Liverpool are tracking as well heading into the summer.

According to Sky Germany, Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie is wanted by Liverpool, with Madrid also keeping tabs on the 23-year-old Ecuador international as a potential centre-back signing.
Hincapie has been linked with Liverpool in the past with the £43m-rated centre-back regarded as one of the best defensive talents in the Bundesliga, with the youngster playing a key role last season in Leverkusen’s double-winning campaign.
Compared to the Bundesliga’s official website with FIFA World Cup-winning defender Lucas Hernandez, Hincapie’s ability to play at both left-back and centre-back will make the South American an appealing prospect for Liverpool.

And with a versatile defender exactly what Slot’s side are looking for, beating Madrid to Hincapie’s signature could be a great move from Liverpool heading into the summer, with the Ecuador international an ideal fit for the Premier League, as well.
Versatility is slowly becoming all the rage for top sides in Europe, with Arsenal under Mikel Arteta showing in recent seasons to have a number of players who can play in a number of positions and roles at the flick of a switch.
And for Liverpool, a player like this at the back like Hincapie is exactly what the Reds should be looking for, with the Anfield side already having a versatile defender in Joe Gomez, though injuries this year have limited the England international’s appearances this season.
Indeed, Hincapie has proven himself at the highest level in Europe to be a real defensive star in the making, and Liverpool could be the next best thing for the South American having thrived at Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso.
