Despite his lofty transfer fee, the forward has failed to really kick on at Anfield, and now looks set to leave the club this summer.

Liverpool are reportedly open to selling Nunez during the summer window, with the club already lining up potential replacements.

Rousing The Kop revealed back in January that Saudi clubs were interested in Darwin Nunez and it has since come to light that the Reds actually rejected two bids for the striker late in the window.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed to GiveMeSport, that Al-Nassar tabled two offers for Nunez prior to their move for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran – with the last of those offers believed to be in the region of £62.5m.

So with the Reds looking to offload Nunez, why didn’t they sell?

There was reportedly no issue regarding finances with both Nunez and the Reds happy with the financials involved – the main issue laid with Liverpool not having a viable replacement ready.

Arne Slot and co only wanted to sell Nunez if they could bring in a new forward themselves, they however believed there were no real forward options on the market in January.

Liverpool could done with a cash injection in January but most would agree they were probably right in striking with Nunez until the end of the season.
