Martin Zubimendi is a name Liverpool fans are probably tired of hearing currently.

The Spanish international was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer transfer window as Arne Slot was on the lookout for a midfielder.

After initially agreeing a transfer, Zubimendi rejected Liverpool in favour of staying at Real Sociedad as he wasn’t ready to leave his boyhood club.

Yesterday, it was claimed that Zubimendi is set to move to Arsenal in the summer of 2025 as he prepares for his Sociedad swansong.

However, sources close to the San Sebastian outfit have appeared to refute these claims, giving Liverpool fresh hope of signing the Euro 2024 winner.

Slot wanted to sign a number six for Liverpool in the summer transfer window and identified the Spanish international as his top target as the Reds signaled their desire to trigger his £51m release clause.

However, the transfer never materialised and the Dutchman opted to use Ryan Gravenberch as his number six, a decision that has proved to be a masterstroke.

Nevertheless, Liverpool have continued to keep tabs on Zubimendi, but reports from the English media yesterday about his impending move to Arsenal came as a bit of a surprise to the Anfield faithful.

However, he hasn’t yet made up his mind, with the report also stating that Real Madrid and Manchester City are also in the running to secure his signature.

Liverpool put all eggs in the Zubimendi basket in the summer, but it appears as if their stance on the Spanish international has changed over the course of the season.

The Spanish international won’t be short of suitors in the upcoming transfer windows as he has continued to play a starring role for club and country.

However, Liverpool are not actively pushing for Zubimendi currently, but it remains to be seen if they maintain their stance in the coming months.

Gravenberch has effectively made the number six position his own and has started every Premier League and UEFA Champions League game under Slot this season.
