There is set to be plenty of change at Liverpool during the summer transfer window.

The Reds have had a really good season so far and look likely Premier League winners as things stand.

But having barely made any signings at all so far, Arne Slot is expected to revamp the Liverpool squad somewhat.

Last year, Slot attempted to address what he saw as a glaring hole at the base of the Liverpool midfield.

Had the Dutch coach gotten his way, he would have brought a new body in, meaning Tyler Morton would likely have been granted a move.

But with no arrival forthcoming, Slot instead kept Morton about to act as cover.

Having played only five times all season, though, the 22-year-old is now reportedly gearing up to leave Anfield.

Having stayed and barely played during the first half of the season, it had been expected that Morton would then leave in January.

There was late interest in Morton from Middlesbrough, but after a deal could not be agreed, the Liverpool academy graduate stayed put once again.

From there, he has since picked up a shoulder injury which is expected to rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.

And according to the Liverpool ECHO, that could signal the end of Morton’s Reds career.

They claim that the midfielder is ‘expected to push for a move’ this summer having seen his progress slowed at Anfield.

Morton has reportedly had interest from ‘a slew of Championship clubs’ as well as Bayer Leverkusen over the last 12 months.

Morton could have been a serviceable option for Slot this season and it now looks like a mistake for Liverpool not to sell him last summer.

Interest was certainly there, although it’s apparant that the Reds’ asking-price of around £20m was a blockade to any deal.

After barely playing for Liverpool this season, it seems unlikely that they could ask for quite so much to sell Morton this time.

As a young, English player with good Championship experience as well as double-figure appearances for Liverpool, he should still fetch the Reds something, though.

Neil Mellor called Morton ‘superb‘ while watching him for the U21s this season and he is clearly far too good for that level.
