Beyond the staff who will be supplementing Slot on the pitches of the AXA Training Centre though, Liverpool have also seen change at boardroom and recruitment level.

Michael Edwards has returned in a new role with FSG, while Julian Ward and Pedro Marques have come in to help the Liverpool owners with their dream of taking over a new club.

Some supporters will have very mixed feelings on the owners taking over a different club.

However, there’s obvious ways it can benefit Liverpool.

There have been reports that FSG will use the second club as a type of ‘feeder’ for Liverpool.

It could help them secure and develop some top talents.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

The Reds are already adept at doing this on home soil.

Liverpool look set to sign Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea, for example, in another demonstration in their commitment to having the best prospects at Anfield.

However, while the likes of Chelsea have been plunging ahead with deals for huge talents abroad, Liverpool are still playing catch up.

Having another club in their stable may help FSG with this, and according to French outlet France Bleu, the Americans are now accelerating talks to take over at Ligue 2 side Girondins de Bordeaux.

Bordeaux are currently mired in financial difficulties.

A delegation for the Liverpool owners, including Ward, are said to have visited the French side last week.

Three members of FSG have now reportedly returned to Bordeaux and are accompanying Lopez as he meets with the French football watchdog to plead Bordeaux’s case.

The Americans are said to be set to introduce themselves and reassure the future of the club moving forward.

Quite how the relationship between Liverpool and a prospective new club would look in practice remains to be seen.

It could even be that FSG operate the two as totally different entities, in which case Liverpool would not be affected at all.

Nevertheless, it’s likely that every Reds’ fan’s second club would instantly become Bordeaux.

A big club fallen on some hard times, perhaps Liverpool supporters could relate in a very small way to what Les Girondins are going through.

As it turns out, fans of both clubs do have something else in common, too.
