Report: When Trent Alexander-Arnold could make long-awaited Liverpool comeback after return to training

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been absent for Liverpool for well over a month, yet a return is finally within sight.

Alexander-Arnold was back in Liverpool training today with the England international ramping up his recovery after injuring his ankle against PSG last month, with the 26-year-old defender missing the last four games in all competitions for the Reds.

With Conor Bradley starting for Liverpool against West Ham, the need to bring Alexander-Arnold back as soon as possible has somewhat quelled with the Northern Ireland international likely to replace the Anfield no.

66 next season.

And Liverpool appear to be playing the safe game with Alexander-Arnold and his recovery this month.

According to the Athletic, Alexander-Arnold is more likely to be back for Liverpool to face Tottenham at the end of April rather than this weekend against Leicester City, with the defender not even back in full training.

As per the report, Alexander-Arnold only took part in small sections of Wednesday’s session with the right-back set to be integrated back into full training under Arne Slot gradually, a process that could take some time.

With Liverpool travelling to the King Power Stadium on Sunday, the Reds can easily afford to give Alexander-Arnold more time to recover from his ankle injury, with Tottenham a more realistic game for the defender to make his return from the sidelines.

Indeed, six points is all that’s needed for Liverpool to win the Premier League title, and if the Anfield side can get the job done against Leicester on Sunday, Alexander-Arnold making his return in the game where the championship can be won will be fitting for the right-back.

With Alexander-Arnold set to join Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer, the defender will want to end his final season with Liverpool by lifting the Premier League title in front of the Anfield crowd in May.

And with the title potentially set to be won against Tottenham at the end of this month, Alexander-Arnold will want to be on the pitch when the moment finally happens, with the defender a key reason why Liverpool have been unstoppable in the route to the biggest prize in English football.

Although fan opinion on Alexander-Arnold is currently split, many supporters will want to give the defender a dream send-off, and seeing the right-back win the title against Tottenham will do just that for many.
