Report: Whether or not Liverpool are now willing to meet Newcastle's £150m asking price for Alexander Isak

Liverpool are set to be one of the biggest players in the summer transfer market, with Alexander Isak a top target.

The Newcastle United striker has been in sensational form for the Magpies this season, with Isak scoring a crucial goal in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool to end the Toon’s 70-year wait for a domestic title.

Such form has attracted big interest heading into the summer, with Liverpool one of the top sides chasing Isak, even with Newcastle setting their asking price for the Swedish international at an eye-watering £150m.

And Liverpool have now set out whether or not they’re willing to meet Newcastle’s Premier League record demands for the 25-year-old centre-forward this summer.

According to the Athletic, Liverpool are unwilling to match Newcastle’s £150m demands for Isak, with the Reds more likely to focus their spending on improving the squad as a whole rather than focus on one big marquee signing.

With Liverpool keen to make five new signings this summer, spreading where the transfer budget is used would be a smart idea, given how much work needs to be done in the transfer window, especially with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold already set to join Real Madrid.

As a result, Liverpool going all out to sign Isak might do more damage than good for the squad, even with the centre-forward position one of the key areas the Reds are likely to spend big on, regardless if they move for the Newcastle star.

And Liverpool seem to be aware of this already, with Newcastle in an incredibly strong position when it comes to negotiating a sale for Isak, even if the forward himself turns around and demands a move to Anfield in the summer.

With so much talk surrounding Liverpool and Isak, it feels strange that the Reds could target another striker given how keen the Premier League leaders seem to be on bringing the Newcastle superstar to Merseyside.

Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with Liverpool with Isak’s international teammate expected to leave Sporting Lisbon for a return to England, though Arsenal appear to be leading the race for the former Coventry City star.

With Liverpool also in the hunt for Jonathan David, there are options out there this summer for the Reds in their quest to sign a top striker, even if it means missing out on Isak, who could have been a dream addition.
