Rumoured Liverpool target Carlos Baleba has opened up about his future amid speculation linking him with a move away from Brighton.
The Cameroonian, who plays as a defensive midfielder, was linked with a move to Liverpool before his move to Brighton from Lille last summer.
The Seagulls signed the 20-year-old to replace Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister, who left for Chelsea and Liverpool, respectively.
After a slow start to life at the Amex Stadium, Baleba has added goals to his game this season under new head coach Fabian Hurzeler.
The midfielder has scored two goals and registered two assists in his ten appearances for Brighton this term.
Although Brighton is under no pressure to sell the youngster, he continues to be linked with a move away, and Liverpool has been touted as a possible destination.
The Reds are still in the market for defensive midfield reinforcements, having failed to sign Martin Zubimenid in the summer.
What Baleba said
However, despite rumours about Liverpool’s interest, Baleba is focused on his development at his current club.
When asked about the links to Premier League rivals, the 20-year-old emphasised he is not focused on other clubs but is eager to keep progressing.
“I don’t really think like that: playing for two or three years and then leaving?
I just work.
In my head, it’s all about working and helping my club,” Baleba told Sky Sports.
“If I can help a team-mate, I will.
So, I just work to help my team and for myself, to progress for the future.
“In return, everyone who helps me wants me to go to the highest level.
I just need to work hard and keep a cool head.
“I don’t know if I’m going to be the star or the next big thing.
I just prefer getting my head down and working on the pitch.”
