Jurgen Klopp would have rejected the England manager’s job out of respect to Liverpool fans, says Rio Ferdinand.

According to former Manchester United and Leeds defender hero Ferdinand, Klopp would never have taken the role.

After nine memorable years at Anfield, Klopp admitted he needed a break from the game and time to reset before his next front-line managerial role.

He left under the circumstances of saying he was tired and there were personal issues going on, then jumps into the England job straight away – I don’t think that was going to happen.”

Klopp has recently taken a new job, a mentoring and advisory role as Red Bull’s head of soccer.

His deal is believed to have a get-out clause should the Germany national team job become available.

“After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this,” said Klopp on his tie-up with Red Bull.

“The role may have changed but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not.

I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs but ultimately, I am one part of an organisation that is unique, innovative and forward looking.”
