Robbie Fowler is rightfully considered as one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players, with the striker earning a legacy at Anfield that will last a lifetime.
Liverpool’s sixth all-time leading goalscorer and a player so good that supporters referred to him as ‘God’, Fowler’s opinion is one that holds a lot of weight and respect around the red side of Merseyside, even to this day.
As well as being one of Liverpool’s most beloved sons, Fowler has played along some truly great players and in doing so has enhanced their reputation at Anfield, with John Barnes, Jamie Carragher and Ian Rush just some of the names the former striker made 100 appearances alongside.
One such player Fowler featured alongside was Steven Gerrard, and despite the midfielder being regarded as arguably Liverpool’s best, the former England international was not named as the striker’s best teammate during his time on Merseyside.

In an interview with Say It & Spray It, Fowler named Steve McManaman as his best Liverpool teammate, with the ex-Leeds United man lauding the former Real Madrid star after giving his flowers to Gerrard and the impact the midfielder had at the Reds.
Now more known for his punditry, McManaman played for nearly ten years at Liverpool before moving on to Madrid, where the midfielder went on to become one of the most decorated English players of all time, and for Fowler, the best he’s ever played with.
Fowler said: “Steven [Gerrard] I played with for a number of years when he was coming through as a young kid.

“But my best player, I don’t think it’s close with Steve McManaman.
Steve McManaman was incredible.
And I don’t know, he probably doesn’t get the love I think he deserves from some of the fans.”
Fowler might have sung McManaman’s praises to heaven and back, but when it comes to which player has the bigger legacy at Liverpool, there’s no denying that Gerrard’s is much bigger than the former Madrid midfielder.
A UEFA Champions League-winning captain who won every for Liverpool bar the Premier League, there’s a reason Gerrard is considered the greatest to ever play for the club alongside the likes of Kenny Dalglish and Rush.
Yet in years to come, McManaman’s legacy will become stronger with former players like Fowler coming out and praising their former teammate, who had quite the impact at Liverpool despite not being as big as the likes of Gerrard.
