Liverpool legend Roberto Firmino has sparked speculation about his future at Al-Ahli, after posting a cryptic message amid uncertainty at the Saudi Pro League club.
The 33-year-old, who holds the record for the most appearances under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, bid an emotional farewell to Anfield two years ago to embark on a new journey in Saudi Arabia.
However, unlike others who have enjoyed a peaceful twilight of their careers in the country, Firmino's stint has been marred with difficulties.
Manager Matthias Jaissle has decided to exclude Firmino from his Saudi Pro League squad for the remainder of the 2024/25 season to accommodate winter signing Galeno within his foreign player quota
"It was a difficult decision for the club and based on the rules
He's still one of our leaders," Jaissle stated.
Firmino is now restricted to playing solely in the AFC Champions League Elite, which could mean a maximum of eight games for Al-Ahli if they reach the final in May
However, Firmino's future at the club is uncertain, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that several clubs are preparing bids following this development.
The former Liverpool favourite has not commented directly on the situation, but he did share a cryptic message on his Instagram story, a bible verse: "But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; (Matthew 5:44)."
